What I Didn't Like

I've used Turbo Tax for years and I really don't like being gouged for additional fees for an additional state return and for state e filing
What's not so great: Extra charges for more that one state and extra charge for state e filing

MUCH SIMPLER!!! Big Time saver!!!!

Turbo Tax continues to improve each year, and saves enormous time in preparing tax returns. Although the biggest time constraint is gathering the information, it still takes nearly forever to fill our forms manually and ever determine with the complex tax code what one is supposed to do, even for a person with a Master's Degree in Business and tax policy. So, thanks, Turbo tax for helping again this year
What's great about it: Instructions were more user friendly--imports easy
What's not so great: gathering info

Program updates as late as March 25 Seems like each section get more involved Each year the [NEXT] button relocates Unable to import data from employer, Fidelity, Vanguard and Wells Fargo Between data entry and reviews, over 12 hours to complete
What's great about it: Feels like everything got covered
What's not so great: Navigation getting more cumbersome
Pros: I bought or sold investments

2015 Retrospective
on April 9, 2016

I'll limit my comments to details of the "cons" I experienced in using TurboTax Premier desktop software. I elect the "Guide me" option to make sure I satisfactorily cover all requirements.
First, after starting 2015 returns, each time an update was processed by the software, I was forced back to the beginning rather than resuming where I left off. This is a time waster.
Second, my wife & I prepared two separate returns in a common copy of the software. I prepared our joint return, my wife prepared her mother's return, with different state returns in each. During the final preps for filing, in each return both states showed up when selecting what to e-file. This is confusing and could result in improper filing. It seems to me it should be relatively easy to limit the options in a given return to only the federal & the state for which data was entered in that return.
Finally, my wife had an issue with the carryover worksheet for her mother's return. Even though the software had carried over the state tax paid in 2014 to the 2015 return, the software was looking for additional state tax data. We finally were able to resolve this issue, but it wasn't straightforward and was another time waster.
One more thing, while preparing this review. Trying to come up with a nickname you would accept, was a pain & another time waster. Either make it easier or drop the requirement for a nickname.
What's great about it: Overall ease of processing information & generating returns
What's not so great: Losing place in process when updates processed; differentiating between filers in common set of desktop software

Great program but difficult to get help sometimes

I love Turbo Tax and have been using it for over 10 years to do my taxes and have never been audited. However, it is particularly irritating that when you get to the last step and are ready to e-file, if you have left something out or filed a form out mistakenly, they will not allow you to transmit your taxes until it is corrected. Unfortunately, they only tell you what is wrong and give you no information on how to correct it. This is particularly true on complicated issues. I have become so frustrated at times, I have just decided to print the returns and physically send them. But then to add insult to injury, Turbo tax makes it difficult to get your electronic filing fee back. One small glitch in a generally good program.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Not enough help and information on complicated issues
Pros: I bought or sold investments

What's not so great: Nothing
Pros: I bought or sold investments
