A summary of pension income, interest income, and dividend income easily available from the 1040 form without having to go to the schedules would be nice
What's great about it: good math check, access to IRS rules
What's not so great: worksheets can be clunky

Nervous but hopeful

I have total confidence in Turbo Tax, just hope I didn't miss anything myself. I love being able to download from my investment information, because I'm not sure I'd be able to do this on my if I couldn't.
What's great about it: Took me through step by step so I didn't miss anything, downloading from investments great!
What's not so great: None for Turbo, just hope I got all information necessary.

Max my refund - helped with Solar Energy Credit

Generally I find TurboTax is easy to use and I use the step-by-step feature to guide me through the various sections of my return in a logical manner. I like that it saves me re-typing a bunch of information by importing and carrying forward data from my last year's return.
Taxes would be ten times more work with paper forms and would be full of mistakes.
One improvement would be to make sections carry a bit more on-screen guidance about whether a section applies - what the min or max income limits are for example. Sometimes you fill out a section only to discover that you don't meet the conditions for deductability and you wasted a bit of time on that. You can click on Help and often get the answers you need, but that takes a few extra clicks.
Overall a great product.
I just wish taxes in general were not so complex!

More disappointed each year

I get more disappointed each year with Turbotax. I get charged for more things, and the charges are always higher than they are supposed to be. I also find more and more things each year that Turbo Tax cannot handle - large number of stock transactions, moving between more than two states, etc.. Not sure I will be able to use Turbotax going forward.

TurboTax makes a painful process much less so. The program leads me through the process in a systematic way.
What's great about it: Works me through the process in a very straightforward manner
What's not so great: Taxes still stressful to prepare
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

My Private Accountant

Turbo Tax is very convenient. It takes you step by step through everything. If you have investments with brokerages all you need do is log on to the brokerage through the software and everything gets pulled in automatically.
If you use it year over year it will pull in the previous year information and use it as a template for the new year requiring even less input on your part. Make sure you have all you tax info at your side because it's just like going to an accountant but much cheaper.
