Getting Easier
on April 9, 2016

Overall, my taxes were quicker and easier to do this year. There were only a couple of spots where I needed more information to continue, and it was easy to get, without interrupting the flow. It is very frustrating to stop and investigate something only to find yourself lost and repeating a lot of stuff. Now you can set a flag in Turbotax to find your way back. After using Turbotax for several years, it seemed like this year was the quickest and easiest.
What's great about it: The "interview" mode was thorough and straightforward.
What's not so great: Couldn't figure out how the 1040-ES estimated payments were calculated.

I found it a bit hard to Navigate in the CA state package. For example, I selected the estimated tax payments form and it took me to the start of state
What's great about it: I liked that the transition from Federal to state was easy
What's not so great: I didn't like that it did not use my Federal 2016 estimated income for state

I have been using Turbotax for many years and was disappointed to see the significant increase in cost for filing state return. Wow that was really a shocker. Also would love to have way to compare filing as marriage-joint vs filing married filing together without doing whole return to do that, an estimate based on some entered info
What's great about it: easy to use and dependable
What's not so great: expensive to file state return

I've used Turbo Tax for multiple years now. It is a solid product and I've had few difficulties. My only recommendation would be that Intuit continue to work on eliminating the "geek" language in the product. I have an accounting background, so I can easily navigate the application, but I think it would be hard to use for people who don't speak "tax lingo". It's gotten better over time, but still a ways to go
What's great about it: Easy to use and clear
What's not so great: Still geeky
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Couldn't join the Family

To upgrade I was directed to "Sign In." But TT would not accept my password nor allow me to change it, An hour of work with a TT rep was not successful. Finally she took me to a small sign to "upgrade without signing in," and we were in business. (We had unexpectedly received a dividend notice requiring a schedule D and an 8949.) I could never have completed the requirement without the guidance of Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Assurance of correct math
What's not so great: Difficulty upgrading
