TT Would Not e-file my CA Return
on April 9, 2016
Posted by: billn2
#1 - TT would e-file my CA state tax return. TT used the justification that I'm filing with a foreign address (where I currently live). However, I could find nothing on the FTB website to justify this. TT said I had to print out and mail in CA return. My gut tells me that there are other reasons for refusing to e-file my state return since the e-filed it last year without a problem. #2 - When answering questions for TT, it seems there is a disconnect with various sections of the software. I had to answer the same questions several times throughout the preparation process and there were many frustrating moments when it seemed income explanations were not connected to deductions.
What's great about it: Loading info from prior year TT
What's not so great: Disconnect throughout - info entered in some areas does appear in others

Unhappy with how clunky the software is
on April 9, 2016

The software is great if you have no idea what you're doing. The moment you know what you're doing though, and it becomes a nightmare to slog through all of the different forms and questions. There's no way I could find to turn it from clunky questions with no hotkeys into a quick and rapid way to give information.
Here's an example: When filling out a W-2, they take you through it step by step. Hitting enter doesn't fast forward you, it simply highlights the current box.
What's great about it: Inquiry based software that will eventually get it done
What's not so great: Takes much longer than needed, no hotkeys

Easy and Accurate

The ability to download data from financial institutions makes this product essential for me. Buying and selling stocks and mutual funds can add a lot of pain to income tax time. But with TurboTax the data downloads and the appropriate forms are completed with zero work on my part. Love that!
What's great about it: TurboTax takes the anxiety out of the annual filing ritual. I've been using it for many years and no longer fear tax ti
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Missing things from previous years
on April 9, 2016
Posted by: JLFLA
I've used Turbo Tax for many years, and it's easy, with the importing of financial information, clear instructions, etc. But i feel like this year some steps I was used to seeing, including preparing of estimated taxes before asking me if I wanted to file, and a comparison of my return with other taxpayers, were missing or I had to hunt them down.
What's great about it: Easy to use and follow
What's not so great: Some steps I'm used to, like preparing estimated taxes, didn't appear automatically. I had to go find them.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Everything worked well, except it took quite a while to figure out how to get the "updater" to work with Windows 10
What's great about it: Very easy to use
What's not so great: Difficulty updating and download state in Windows 10
