Smooth Sailing

TT makes it easy, even though mine isn't the simplest return. Allows you to correct a missed entry or a mistake anytime. Shows status of your return (how much you might owe or get back). TT even error checks and gives risk level for an IRS audit!
What's great about it: Questions lead you right through the filing of your return
What's not so great: The help function shows answers from anyone who dares to respond to a question, and they aren't necessarily correct,

Still the best way to file taxes!

We've used Turbo Tax for years, and will continue to use them. Probably the easiest and least expensive way to do taxes. You only have to make sure you have all the information and paperwork the program needs. It's simple to go back and review any steps before filing.
What's great about it: Step by step process with constant checks for mistakes
What's not so great: Price

I need to get the TurboTax Cd when it has a rebate at Costco. I could pay someone to do my taxes for almost the same price as paying full price at Costco for the disc. The support does help. It feels good to accomplish the taxes and get a refund.
What's great about it: Transfer of previous data. Transfer of data from financial institution.
What's not so great: I didn't like some of the information that transfered. I couldn't remember what some of the numbers meant

transfer problems very frustrating

I have used Turbotax for years, but I am not sure I will in the future. I had some incorrect information transferred to this years return, even though the incorrect information had been removed by hand from last years return (which was a big pain). Although it was a meaningless error, I could not efile until the answer was removed. I had to print out form 2555, delete the form, and reenter the information. When I did that, I was unable to simply fill out the form, so it turned out different and that changed the amount of my refund.
I also tried to use the interview process for my K-1 statements from my wife's inheritance and I am certain they are all incorrect. I spend hours this year and last year trying to enter the data correctly and finally just gave up.
I was also not able to file my state. Because I am not a resident of Ohio where my wife lives (I live abroad) I was prompted to say what state i lived in. I entered Egypt and the system would not accept it. I could not correct this in the forms or worksheets.
May things work great, of course, but toggling between worksheets and forms does not seem to be as effective as in past years. When I am working on a form and switch to interview mode, instead of taking me to the relevant worksheet, it takes me to the beginning of the interview. Horrible!

confusion

going very easy till almost to the end when box pops up stating part of state income tax refund from 2014 was used investment purposes.Knew it was not so because Texas has no state income tax. Called turbo tax and was transferred to tax dept. help desk. Lady was very nice, very helpful, and stayed with me till problem s resolved with my return, only problem being it took about 2 hours. Never could determine why pop up about state income tax occurred but your employee was very patient and diligent to the end. Got er done!
What's great about it: mostly very easy to navigate
What's not so great: 2 hour phone call to resolve issue
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Audit defense. Unable to purchase. Not authorized to deduct from refund because of foreign address. Unable to use foreign credit card (matching foreign address).

What's not so great: Foreign tax credit. Too many "errors" from missing information during review. Areas not covered in the steps.

TurboTax is great in guiding you through complex tax forms and rules. It is very easy to use. Also, I like that it lets you skip the interview mode if you know where to go on your own... makes it much faster. Altogether, a great piece of software!
