Hammami Review of Turbotax

1. I had difficulty entering my Foreign Pension received from the UK. This is not a new problem, but seemed more problematic this year than previous years.
2. I had difficulty entering Foreign taxes paid in the Uk on my UK Pension.
In both instances, the system tried to send me to a form needed to do something else, kept going in a loop.
All I wanted to do was enter the UK Pension as Foreign Income and the UK Taxes as Foreign Taxes. The system kept sending me in circles. It needs to be simplified.

What's great about it: Very Good product dealing with a complex tax system. Prompts user when needed for complex situations
What's not so great: Two parts with difficult and time consuming process, mostly due to complex way they are described

All good except one item

Wife received a small stipend as an elected board member of a local water company. Every year it takes hours trying to enter this figure because TT thinks she is in business for herself or some such other thing.
What's great about it: All Good

What's great about it: Ease of handling
What's not so great: Can use more graphics

Software that does its job

Ovrall, the Turbotax program works well and does what it was intended to do. Some of the error messages generated by the final State-specific review are non-intuitive and there was no help available for the specific text in the error messages received. The user shouldn't have to "guess" that the program is expecting zeros instead of blanks, when it asks for five previous years worth of non-allowable section 1231 values that were blank on previous year's returns. It would be helpful if Turbo tax could provide some additional detail regarding what the program is calculating and why, when it generates an error message.
What's great about it: Overall, the software worked well and did its job.
What's not so great: non-intuitive state-specific review error messages

Always improving

I've used TTax for several years and for several different sorts of filings - simple, complicated, state, deceased filer and estate filing. It's been generally very easy to use. It seems to get better every year - simplifying the process (as much as possible given the US tax code!) and adding new features and keeping up with tax code and rules changes. E-filing is great!!
What's great about it: TurboTax gets better every year, easy to use, lots of help
What's not so great: Some times a little convoluted to "go back" to make changes
