A non-taxing tax program

Excellent software except for the sales tax purchases. I rate the whole package as a 4 star +, out of 5 stars. I am a long term user and it keeps getting better and better, plus it is fast. Easy for us old retired folks.
What's great about it: Simple to follow. Steps you through the entire process. Easy to use. Concise
What's not so great: The state sales tax entries were cumbersome. The options for purchases were difficult to enter.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Painful Procrastination

If you keep all the information needed during the year in a separate file, Turbo Tax is very easy. If you are retiring, pay attention to the financial changes you make during the tax year. I am so glad this is complete and Turbo Tax has verified it. Time to breathe easy and celebrate.
What's great about it: The transfering made the return process much easier.
What's not so great: Some data didn't not transfer and was not on my tax list. That was confusing.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Good and Bad

Donated 2 cars this past year. Getting proper forms filled out a bit of a chore. A quick link would have been nice. And why did one vehicle get treated differently than the other. Ended up going to forms and filling out on my own and skipping steps.
What's great about it: Transferring from prior year(s) a major plus
What's not so great: Major charitable contributions a pain
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Another 10 Years of TurboTax
on April 7, 2016

When I was nearly completed with 2015 taxes I had to hand enter my estimated income for 2016 into the federal forms in order to have TurboTax come up with a valid estimated tax for 2016. Since in 2015 I had a large capital gain from a one-time property sale, I couldn't let TurboTax work with that large amount for 2016. I was disappointed to learn at printout that my hand entered federal values did not carry over into the state forms, so my printouts of the state estimated vouchers are exceedingly high as to be useless.
What's great about it: Works year after year to give me the easiest reporting of federal and state taxes.
What's not so great: Didn't take my individually entered estimated income for 2016 in the federal form and transfer them into the state.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

All wast good except we had to change investment funds this year. We had too many transactions to record and could only have one of two funds done electronically
Would have been helpful if info. upfront when trying to upload transaction files that it would let you know about paper file option. Not ideal, but at least could still use TurboTax.
Ideally allow up to 5-10k transactions.
What's great about it: easy to navigate, good information and allows me to do most of my capital gains work
What's not so great: If you have more than 2000-2500 sales transactions for capital gains or other income even desktop version doesn't supppo
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I have used Turbo Tax for 5 years. It is easy to follow each section. I have rental properties and could not prepare my return without Turbo Tax guidance. I strongly recommend this product.
What's great about it: Easy to follow and use
What's not so great: None
