This could be better, they need to be better at debugging it. When something goes wrong it should tell you what is wrong and how to fix it. some times it doesn't do that.
What's great about it: software usually knows what it is doing
What's not so great: It refused to let me pay the fee to file my state return electronically and would not indicate what the problem was.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Not up to your normal Par!!

I was very disappointed with this year's offering. Both my wife and I had RMDs, which were not handled correctly!! and nothing I could get it to do. Used my RMD and Social Security, but missed hers when transferring to the CO IRA Summary, so I. Had problems with the fact that with the CO and MD, I could not E-file the MD. So I have to set the bits for E-File for Fed and CO, do that, then reset for MD and print it out, but had to redo the CO as MD wants a copy of the CO filing (non-resident.
Like I said ... Really sloppy coordination and last. I thought I got FED E-FIle and one State E-File free... Had to pay for CO, and I guess absorb the "free" and useless E-File I could not use.
What's great about it: Figures pretty good with all the new forms
What's not so great: Lots of breakage when dealing with CO and MD and RMDs!!!
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Easy with flaws
on April 6, 2016
Posted by: LindaNorman
Friendly organized, easy-to-use almost-automatic process; we've used Turbotax for many years. Some flaws have been fixed, but not those mentioned above. Quick to return to correct or complete something. Would love if Turbotax could re-alphabetize my list of donations for reviewing this year and using next year. THANKS!
What's great about it: Intuit did all the reading for me and created great explanations; easy to go back and fix things (till you click "send")
What's not so great: Did not prompt for prior year IRS pin (when ID was stolen); K-1, K-1T don't fit mine; Line 14a on 1099-R

ESOP improved
on April 6, 2016

While I still think the ESOP is confusing, the entry screens were much improved over the previous versions -- I used the premier version. It made more sense of why you use other data than what is provided on the 1099B. Thanks. In the past I dreaded the esop data entry and it used take me hours. Thanks
What's great about it: I think the ESOP screen entry for capital gain improved

A very Disappointing Program
on April 6, 2016

TT constantly raises its cost both in what it charges and what it leaves out. For the past several years it has dropped the cost basis assistance it had been providing for years. The excuse, that we can get it elsewhere, is false. I have used TT continuously since 1997. This year was the very worst.
What's not so great: No way to calculate basis

Great product!

Tax due is way overstated until you click "This sale involves a employee stock plan (including ESPP) or an uncommon solution." I missed that checkbox the first time through. My mistake but would appreciate some clearer guidance that says "if you don't check here you may double-up on your investment sale taxes."
What's great about it: Easy to use even if you have to go back and correct something out-of-sequence
What's not so great: Need better guidance around employer issues non-qualified stock options.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

still bitter from last year's forced upgrade

the interview process to determine whether one qualifies for deductions needs improving. for example, at the end of the lengthy question/answer portion of looking for a medical deduction, we are asked if form XXXX was received from the IRS. it hadn't. thus disqualifying from the deduction. this should be the FIRST question. same problem with two other deductions, education, and ...
What's great about it: auto-download of previous turbotax filing
What's not so great: going through question/answer portion although at the front end we didn't qualify for deduction. example education costs
