TurboTax Premier- &Oregon State Tax Return

While I did encounter a frustrating problem with the Oregon State Tax Return -- Form 40P, I was able to obtain guidance from Tech Support to find a solution to the problem, by following a link to State of Oregon's website for Forms. I was instructed to download Form 40P & then printed out successfully.
What's great about it: TurboTax Premier for Federal was great!
What's not so great: TurboTax Premier for Oregon State Tax Return (40P) had problem with printing forms.

Simple & thorough

Have used for 12+ years after having used a few other programs and this is the best. Have had all family & many friends "subscribe" to annual use of this program and they are all as happy. Thank you for continued service.
What's great about it: Very meticulous questioning and recording of data
What's not so great: 2 minor problems this year
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Love Turbo Tax!

We have been using Turbo Tax for years, even when we had a home business as well as outside employment. It asks all the right questions so that nothing falls between the cracks. Turbo Tax has helped us save money year in and year out. It is easy to follow and has help available if questions arise. We especially like the Audit Defense feature, knowing that if we are audited we will not have to represent ourselves. We also like the way it values items that you give to charitable organizations. Last, but not least, it's so much less expensive than using other tax services. We highly recommend Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Walks you through everything step by step!
What's not so great: Doesn't make me do my taxes early...that's my fault!

Premier Edition 2015 Tax Year CD

I've been using TurboTax for years. The import of prior year data and financial info. is very helpful and saves time. Ability to choose a "guided" or "do it yourself" approach is a good feature. Very good if you have investments (stocks, bonds, options, etc.) Had printing issues however. Program would not print or allow print preview of any return documents. Had to do a lot of research to find steps to save files as PDF'S and then print. Very cumbersome and time consuming. The program also keeps asking you to do your state return when you finish the federal, even if you are from a state that does not have an income tax. That should be an easy fix but has been in the program for years. Overall it's still pretty good but the print problems this year are bad.
What's great about it: Import of prior year and investment info.
What's not so great: Printing problems

the charges to process both the State AND Federal return are way too much money. You pay for the program and then you pay to finalize your returns.

This is the first time I've used TurboTax. It is well set up from beginning to filing. It was easy to use, very thorough and the information asked for was easy to understand. The questions asked covered all of the necessary information I needed to file an accurate return. Saving the state and federal returns to a file and the option of printing copies of the returns were appreciated. I will definitely use Turbo Tax again and I highly recommend the product. Try it once, you'll be impressed.
What's great about it: Intuitive. I was asked pertinent questions. They left no stone unturned.

Good for regular returns, not for foreign taxes

I have used turbo tax for years and it has been great. This year, I had a foreign capital gain where I paid taxes to the Canadian government, and turbotax had a lot of problems dealing with the situation. When I entered the information, it was telling me to pay $40K to the Feds and $22K to California. It took several calls to the help desk and the Franchise Tax Board before I was able to enter everything correctly (and ended up with a $25K federal and $1k California return). Luckily, I had purchased the CD version instead of the online version, so I was able to manipulate the forms directly. I will be buying the CD version in the future because of that!
What's great about it: easy to enter typical transactions
What's not so great: Difficult to deal with unusual situations

In the Open Form mode, the forms should open more and entry in the Forms should backfill elsewhere.
Could be better Tax tips for this year and suggestions for next year.
Collects State return fee, says everything is just one click away and then bam, keep coming back with strange Check entry queries. Gets to be very frustrating, especially with K-1s.

What's great about it: Lot of solid work went into it. Mostly easy to use and good description
What's not so great: Vanguard upload didnt work, K-1 entries and "Check entry" descriptions didnt match-huge issue.
