I have been filing IRS tax returns for more than 40 yrs. By hand, spreadsheet, then TurboTax, since at least 1995. I still have all of the original media! I have never been audited, but did have a couple of "bumps" with errors over the years that were likely my mistakes. I tried competitor products twice and in both cases ended up still using TurboTax. It is a trusted and necessary tool if your return is complicated. The Premier version is essential. However, there is one product that's better, a "Flat Tax" like that used in Singapore where I worked for two years. It is one-page long. Fortunately, TurboTax handled those two very complex US returns very well.
What's great about it: Follow the guides, fix the errors, and it's done.
What's not so great: The IRS Code is FAR to complex!

Seems to do the job for us and is pretty simple to use. Some questions that guide you through the prep may seem confusing in that you may second guess what they want. Need to be less fuzzy and more concrete. I use the info boxes, but still have to nut out the meaning. Wish I was more of an accountant and knew what they meant.
Our taxes are pretty simple and we seem to get consistent results year to year.
What's great about it: Great price at Costco, ItsDeductableOnline makes deductions easy (especially if you immediately enter them as you donate
What's not so great: some questions as you go may be confusing (taken in different ways)

Federal was easy to follow and went very smoothly.
MN was convoluted and kept referring to documents not on line or obscure and convoluted in places

Torturous but successful

Telephone conversation apparently resolved limitation of TurboTax Premier where the information of the stock broker was not accepted by the TurboTax programming.
What's great about it: Covered all pertinent details
What's not so great: Initially unsuccessful with accepting information from Interactive Brokers
