Retirement annuity income section needs help

The income section for annuities is extremely confusing. I have a federal government retirement annuity and had to skip the "Easy Step" guided tour on this part and manually enter figures on the forms. There should be more instructions on how to figure out taxable income if it is not shown in box 2a on the 1099R form. Instead, Turbo Tax forces you to go through questions that only a CPA would know how to answer. An example would be whether or not I received an RMD. I have no idea what an RMD is, let alone know whether or not I received it. The only reason I was able to figure out what to put on the forms for taxable income is that I used the IRS Simplified Method Worksheet that I downloaded from the IRS web site. My CPA had used this form in a previous year so I used her work as a guide.
What's great about it: For the most part, this is a very helpful program, but . . .
What's not so great: The income section for annuities is extremely confusing. I skipped "Easy Step" and manually entered figures.

Almost Great

It can be confusing to select the correct version of TT that will have all the features you need. I live in a rural area without Internet, so if I make a mistake, I have to wait until I get into town and visit the library before I can be "upsold" to the correct version.
My tax situation is modest, but has a couple of quirks that prevent me from using the most basic product. I used premier because I get a K-1 from a vacation cabin I own with my wife's family. I made a mistake last year and had to get a different version. It is hard to tell what version you need for your situation.
My feeling is, unless you're rich, premier should work.
I do think this year's version is better than previous versions. All went very smooth.

My major gripe about TT is that the program has "free" e-filing, but requires you to pay for the state efiling. I don't mind paying so much as I dislike having to do it when I am wrapping things up. They want you to open an account, have a password, etc. I did it one year, but could not remember it the following year. So until they change that, I'll just print out the state and mail it in. Are you listening, TT? You are losing money with your current setup.
All in all, TT does the job for me, isn't too expensive, and everyone accepts it. Until something better comes along....

Prepared 4 family returns

I prepared our joint return and our three grown children. The program is easy to follow and has good prompts for entry and checking.
It would be nice to have a search tool that links to the data entry section for less common things to enter. The search tool takes me to narratives about the item, but does not link input location.
Also, it would be nice to be able to do a print-screen from any area of the program. When I enter Ctrl-P, it goes to the screen to print any or all of the return. For instance, I'd like to print the screen that tells me our return has been successfully filed and the dates involved.
The things I would like to see improved are not major things...more like comfort things. The program works quite smoothly and easy to use.
What's great about it: prompting is good; basic info to enter is easy to follow
What's not so great: less common items to enter can be harder to find and no search tool to lead to the proper input area

I like using Turbo Tax as it is easy to enter data and calculations are done for you. The worksheets are useful in determining how line items are calculated. Turbo Tax simplifies the process of filing out the tax forms and is infinity easier to do than reading Tax documentation on how to complete the forms.
What's great about it: Forms and worksheets completed and available for review
What's not so great: help search could be easier

Good but sometimes too automatic

I used this product for many years now and it makes filing taxes less tedious than without it.
What's great about it: mostly intuitive to use, accurate, help options are good
What's not so great: sometimes things happen so automatically you can't recreate how it got from point A to point B
