Works well but expensive
on April 6, 2016

The additional states are expensive.
1) I don't like the guided workflow: when you complete a section it takes you back to a summary page and then you must scroll down a page or two to go to the next section.
2) I don't like that when I need to repeat a section to review or fix something it does not always remember my Yes/No selections.
What's great about it: Works, confident I did everything right
What's not so great: Expensive, don't like guided workflow

Very good tax program

Would like the feature that shows where a number comes from. Old TT used to do that. Would also like some addition to state program that alerts user of potential out of state income that can be excluded.
What's great about it: Solid handling of K-1s
What's not so great: No "comes from here" feature, context help good be better

Another good Turbo Tax edition
on April 6, 2016

I had a good experience (or rather, low pain) in preparing my 2015 return. I really like the ability to import tax documents from financial institutions. Sometimes I was led into answering questions that were not necessary, as they did not apply to my income bracket. The underlying logic could be tweaked a bit in that regard. Overall I was well satisfied with the software.
What's great about it: Abilty to move back and forth between section
What's not so great: Built in help dialogs don't persist when switching views (Windows 10).
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Good & Bad
on April 6, 2016

I like that it had stored all my info from past returns and that it did all the hard work of actually figuring my tax after I entered all my info. However, the whole program froze when I tried to install the updates and It was two days before it functioned again and let me proceed. This was very frustrating.
What's great about it: Turbo Tax did all the hard work after I submitted the info.
What's not so great: It froze when I tried to install upgrades and it took a long time to get it working again.

It is discouraging to see Turbotax offered for less off the shelf than what I pay as a recurring customer.

Complicated Year
on April 6, 2016

With both of us retired, working through SS and IRA incomes was quite ease. We both have required deductions from our IRAs which adds another level of complexity.
Being able to import the IRA information makes it quite easy.
What's great about it: Worked through IRA transfers

Mostly satisfied but...

I use both Turbo Tax and H&R Block. Each has strengths and weaknesses. Biggest problem I had with TT was entering donation of securities. I had to go to help group and hope that the instructions given there are correct. I had to enter the securities as if they were household items and there was no way to change the valuation procedure to the reletant Fed Regulation (one of the options in H&R Block). [But their import feature sucks!].
What's great about it: Efficient importing of investment docs
What's not so great: Very poor handling of non-cash donations

Went well

I tried eFile for the first time but gave up. I got my PIN but somehow needed to get my wife's PIN and it kept saying the data I was entering - which was straight of the 2014 return - was wrong. No way out I could find. I dropped it and filed by mail.
What's great about it: Almost all seemed to go well and smoothly
What's not so great: eFile failed
