Taxes Made Easy

As a con I stated the cost of the software, but the program is cheaper than hiring somebody. Unless I gave it to my brother-in-law who I am sure would do it correctly. I like it that I did it myself. Furthermore my grown children and my sister come over and we do their taxes as well.

What's great about it: Detailed steps and complete. Ability to stop and continue later.
What's not so great: Cost of software.

Great experience. Helped me account for tax issues related to my recent divorce. Very easy to use overall and in particular the program understood my particular divorce situation very well.

I've been using TTax for probably 20 years, so that speaks for itself. Haven't tried any others because TTax works. Simple as that.

Good but Could be Easier to Use

Generally easy to use and complete a return especially the Federal section. Step by step provides easy way to enter data. It's easy to go to the forms to check what is actually in the returns and make edits if it is incorrect.
Some more help in the AMT section would be welcome as well as in other lesser used forms in order to complete them accurately. The same is especially true of the State section.
Some screens present check boxes to be completed and a continue button. Turbo Tax will let you continue without selecting a check box, but what data is entered in this case is unclear.
The state product (AZ) is less easy to use than the Federal. After completing the state Step by Step, it can be very difficult to go back and make changes as some screens and data entry areas become unavailable when going back to check entries and make changes. In my case this required me to redo the return from scratch. Also the interaction between the Federal and State sections was confusing in that I found that changing some of the Federal information altered things in the State section in unclear ways. Specifically changing municipal interest entries in the Federal section created changes (as it should) in the State section, but I had a hard time getting it right. Eventually I started over with a clean return and got things as I wanted them.
Still though, this is likely the best product out there to automate return preparation and I will keep using it next year.
What's great about it: Simple interface. Good transition from step by step to forms.
What's not so great: State product not very transparent. AMT and some of the les used forms could incoude some more help pages

Getting into the details was a little frustrating, I had some dealing with 1099R ROTH issues. Needed to deep dive to assure i was doing it right, Took some extra effort.
What's great about it: Step by Step is great
What's not so great: When i needed to dig deeper on certain details it proved harder than thought
