TurboTax Premier

I have used TurboTax Premier for several years and have been generally very satisfied with it. I have had 2 situations in recent years that is not covered by TurboTax Premier: I am the trustee for a simple trust for a niece left to her by her grandmother. I have to go to the federal and state sites to get the forms and fill them out by hand. This year, I had to file taxes for my father's estate and was told I would have to purchase TurboTax Business. It is not covered by TurboTax Home and Business. Again, because it was a simple estate, I downloaded the form and instructions and did it by hand. I understand both of these situations can be very complicated, but I wish TurboTax covered these for the simple cases like I had.
What's great about it: Turbotax walks one through the steps to file. I like that it copies pertinent information from previous year taxes.
What's not so great: TurboTax does not cover any tax situations like trust and estate tax prep.

Great package and is why I use it every year since 2003. Wish that when you pay to e-file State Returns it had a print button to print receipt for charges.
What's great about it: Step by Step to do taxes and cover all aspects
What's not so great: K-1s and Foreign Investments should be easier
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

2015 Turbo Tax comments

There is trouble going between forms and interview. When you click back on interview it doesn't pick up where you left off -- even when all you do is view a form and don't make it change or leave that form. When you make entries in the interview process and back up to view them, you have to reenter the info again. After using Turbo Tax for years these items seem to be a problem the last couple of tax years.
What's great about it: Interview process is simple
What's not so great: Problems going between forms and interview process

A difficult year
on April 5, 2016

I felt that it was hard to move around when I had to revisit items in my returns but I made do. I had to visit several forms to fill in some missing information that the program did not ask or did not fill in. I caught that by printing out a copy of my return before even attempting to eFile. As I said above, the Ohio return page on Health Care is a night mare. The terms were not defined anywhere, in the IRS publications nor in the Ohio instructions. I finally figured out how to fill out the page but it took a long time to figure out. And, I wasn't sure if the TurboTax program was helping me or hindering me either! I just had to play around until the information turned out correctly. It would have helped if the information for IRS Schedule A would have been retained in the program even when the standard deduction used for my federal return erased it!!! That would have solved the major issue with the Ohio return right away.
What's great about it: Handled the complexities pretty well
What's not so great: The Ohio return page on Health Care is a night mare.

A few more little things would help
on April 5, 2016

I've used TurboTax for years, and its getting better and better. But a couple of things that I've noticed would help make the process go even better: Please sort the names of the charitable organizations that I enter into alphabetical order. Use alphabetical order for the items listed in the "Its Deductible" categories.
What's great about it: Excellent overall package
What's not so great: Some of the details were harder than they could be

What's great about it: Very easy to load and use instructions. Auto download from brakerage is great.
What's not so great: none
Pros: I bought or sold investments
