I live in one state and work in another. I get one free state with my TurboTax but I have to purchase the second state which I'm OK with. The extra fee applied for each state tax submission should be part of the "free" state that comes with the program and for the additional state I need to file.
What's great about it: program is easy to use
What's not so great: hidden fees

OK but K 1 computations very difficult

Mostly intuitive and enjoy switching between forms and step by step. Particular like that auto downloads now calculate all the capital gains info.
Immensely frustrating that TT K 1 instructions do not state right up front that if multiple boxes checked you have to do multiple k- 1s. I had to really dig the blogs etc to find the answers.
Not at all easy to find how to add each additional K 1.
As there are more and more Publicly Traded Partnerships this needs to be addressed ASAP
What's great about it: downloads direct from banks/brokerages
What's not so great: K i form insane to parse into 3 k 1 from the one you receive

it is still the best out there, but it is struggling to keep up with the increasing complexity. if you have anything beyond the routine - e.g., foreign currency transactions, business expenses, K1s, etc.- prepare to be confused and prepare to be extra vigilant.
there are also obvious ways to improve the experience that are long overdue. one example: i never want to import 1099 info & i always want to choose what to work on when logging in. ttax should let me create a user profile that makes these my defaults. it's really a no-brainer, but ttax carries on like it's 1996.
What's great about it: user friendly
What's not so great: not keeping up
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Closer to Being Really Good

I stopped using Turbo Tax in favor of H&R Block for TY2014 after using TT for several years because TT changed its product to force consumers to pay more for what was formerly included in a lower tier product. However I found H&R Block to be sorely inadequate. The 2015 version of TT that I used this time is quick, comprehensive and easy to use. Its biggest drawback was: 1) the help section. It was of little use, i.e., not context sensitive, banal, non responsive to my queries and obtuse; 2) navigation was challenging when trying to return to a prior page or section of the return.
What's great about it: Ease of use
What's not so great: Help section is weak and incomplete
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I have used TurboTax for years now. For 2014 I used H R Block and found it very cumbersome, especially when back tracking where the values were derived on the various forms. I am back to TT this year and find it head and shoulders above HRB in this regard. Keep it up.
What's great about it: Step-by-step is foolproof
What's not so great: None
Pros: I bought or sold investments
