If you are careless, the program will calculate exemptions without prorating. Also, the medical deduction schedule has fed med expense and NJ med expense, if u r not careful, the program will add up both amt. I am a tax accountant, other lay people will not be able to catch these.
What's not so great: make sure you specify the short period of residency

Great experience for some time.

I have been using TT for some time. Great experience except that once an item entered that need update later, will not always shows as updated and one must go to forms to make corrections. This is the corrections for a little complex return. Additionally, they should pay more attention to make K1 and business form interviews more simple.
What's great about it: Good handling for interview.
What's not so great: Update of entered amount is not accurate, one must revisit the forms to edit changes in there.

Software Engineers Perspective (Mac Version)

Mac Version
Encountered a continuous loop in logic when working with Ohio Version, could not advance without closing and reopening when performing the Ohio check and moving on the next step. Could not display the Ohio version of the tax forms. Had to print the return to view the information that was on the state form.
Basic user interface: Good
General flow for information entry: Good
Attention to detail for end cases: Not so good.
Did not crash,
Got the job accomplished with only a minor hiccups.
Planning on using it again.
What's great about it: Easy to navigate when it works
What's not so great: Could not over ride values for special tax situation between Federal and State

Very thorough and every year you use it the easier it becomes as long as the deltas are minimal
What's great about it: Organized, linear, intuitive
What's not so great: Only one state per order

Great Program... here are a couple suggestions
on April 3, 2016

One thing I'd like to see is a stronger connection between the values that come up in the forms, and the worksheets (or whatever) on which the values are computed. When I review the forms and see unexplained values, it sometimes takes a lot of detective work to figure out where the numbers came from... if the program could connect me directly to the calculation details, that would be slick.
Another confusion is the PINs for e-filing. I helped my parents file for their first time using TurboTax, and it was hard to figure out whether we were assigning our own PIN via the TurboTax interface, or we had to go to the IRS to get the PIN. SInce I have been filing my return many years with TurboTax, this wasn't an issue for my return, but for their "new" return it was hard to understand the PIN acquisition mechanism.
Also I imported my parent's 2014 return TaxAct file, and I was a little disappointed in the detail that came with it. TurboTax advertises this capability, but very little of last year's details made it into this year's TurboTax file, which was particularly inconvenient for things like depreciation schedules for rental properties.... I had to start over with those by finding the original depreciation schedules, purchase prices and dates in service.
Overall I am very happy with TurboTax, and have been using it for many years.
What's great about it: Does a lot of magic in the background to fill out the right forms; good interface to get to the important questions.
What's not so great: See review
