Every year, it's like putting on comfortable shoes

I tried a competitor's product last year and stopped before I finished, and went back to TurboTax. This year, I knew exactly what to do and bought TurboTax to start with :) It works in a logical way, never had any trouble, always pleased.
What's great about it: Works as designed, great interface
What's not so great: complex tax code (not Intuit's fault!)

Suggestions for improvements

Inputting data regarding the K-1 (oil and gas LLP) was a bit confusing. There did not seem to be a 1:1 correspondence between the K-1 info and the Easystep guide.
Also, in trying to manually change the 1040-ES quarterly payments, it seemed that the changes were not incorporated into all of the forms in TT. It was especially difficult to accommodate a large capital gain in 1Q without affecting the remaining quarters. It would be very helpful if TT asked the question right up front whether you want to enter the estimated quarterly payments directly (manually) without having to fill out the worksheet to do the calculation automatically. It was cumbersome to overwrite the data for each individual quarterly coupon.
What's great about it: Overall, easy to use, but have been using TT for many years
What's not so great: A bit clunky in filling out Form K-1, and changing 1040-ES info manually
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Easy to use

I have been using this program for 10 plus years. It is very easy to use and comparable to an accountant's computation. One year I visited with an accountant & completed Turbo Tax and the end result was about the same. Also, I feel more comfortable with Turbo Tax because it asked me more questions than the accountant.
What's great about it: You simply answer the questions

It prints out estimated payment forms, but doesn't consider that I would change my withholding. When I go back through a section it makes me answer all the questions rather than show my previous answers. I think the IRA section should default to tracking rather than not tracking.
What's great about it: does a good job of doing return
What's not so great: Deluxe does't do mutual funds anymore so I have to buy the more expensive version.

I really like how it takes info from last year to help. Over all it is good.
What's great about it: It covered just about every question
What's not so great: When you were trying to fill something out it doesn't always let you finish then there isn't a way to force through.
Pros: I moved

Used this for my federal and 2 states. The process was easy, well laid out and fairly quick. Only issue was during the filing process the deadline for the one state tax wasn't fully clear.
What's great about it: step by step walk through and easy understanding
What's not so great: dates for state tax filing not fully clear

When we printed the state return the right side was not complete. I had to go to the forms and print them separately.
What's great about it: Quick Easy Accurate
What's not so great: Printing state return

Just OK

There needs to be easy ways to compare different types of filings like married filing jointly or separately. ON the Required Minimum Distribution there are no options for a regular pension. Lots of funny quirks that keep you guessing and wondering if H & R Block would be easier.
What's great about it: Fairly Easy
What's not so great: Lacks detailed explanations
