Was not helpful with self-employment expenses

Turbotax asked for income based on 1099-Misc. I earned these as a contract employee. It NEVER asked for expenses. I had to search - lost about 20 minutes - & never found anywhere online that told me where to enter the expenses. Finally, when doing a review, it showed us a Schedule C and we found a way to type in the expenses.
Very disappointed with that. This was the reason we used Turbotax, because we weren't sure how a Schedule C worked.
What's great about it: Everything else went smoothly
What's not so great: Turbotax NEVER asked for expenses that would go on a Schedule C
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Multiple year user of TurboTax and have been using the Premier version for the last four years. Has been rock solid each and every time in handling all of my tax situations. Easily handles my rental properties and royalties. Calculates depreciation very well.
What's great about it: Walks you through all steps and also handles my rental properties and royalties.

Handled complex review

Our return was a bit complicated this year because our financial adviser did a lot of capital gains stuff. I needed to import txf files. Still, TurboTax managed to do it all without a lot of difficulty..
Perhaps I should add that, although I am not a finance professional, I have been handling my finances and doing my taxes for many years, so I am better than most at this.
What's great about it: easy to use, comprehensive
What's not so great: Sometimes took a bit of time figuring out what was wanted

TurboTax Finally Gets It Right
on April 3, 2016

Finally, TurboTax has figured out that certain retirement benefits are not taxed in my state. In years past, I've had to override some calculations, which was both a nuisance and time-consuming--that is, verifying that I'm right.
What's great about it: Easier navigation, less clutter

Too complex, even for a CPA

last year my state did not allow medical deductions; this year they did. Nowhere could I find a year over year comparison to prove that i got everything i should have this year. In fact, nowhere could i find detailed year over year comparisons collected in one place.
What's great about it: quick and easy, inexpensive
What's not so great: lacks ability to compare year over year

Excellent overall..
What's great about it: Being able to import 1099's directly by connecting to bank/brokerage
What's not so great: Not being able to import 1099-SA from HSA provider
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Buggy

It was difficult to use this year. I have a simple return with only the added complication of a K-1. Federal went fine except it gave us a health care gap even after answering we all had health care all year. I had to find the 3 forms needed to correct. New York State was difficult. It added quarterly tax payments that I had to manually remove and then it could not advise me on the K-1 pass through items required by state. I could not electronically file and after talking to state reps they advised us to mail in return.
What's great about it: convenient pulling in personal data and numbers from last year
What's not so great: buggy. Didn't handle healh care correctly. added payment vouchers for state

Disappointed in TurboTax for 2015
on April 3, 2016

To my surprise I had a number of technical issues with 2015 TT. I've never had issues like this in prior years.
Had to close and restart the program a number of times before forms were recognized by the software.
A number of times the software quit (generally when switching from Entry to Forms. Hitting the Forms button shut down the software probably 25% of the time.
Based on prior experience i expected performance. All I got was a higher price.
I probably will consider alternatives next year which i have never done before.
What's great about it: Roll forward of prior year.
What's not so great: Number of times the software spontaneously shut down
