first retirement return

The download request at every startup is a bit aggravating. why not on download to begin and a download at the stage prior to review federal return? if there is a change from a new download - then return to the entries and revise. if no difference - no hassle.
What's great about it: excellent flow to software; nots difficult at all
What's not so great: the return to the main menu after every sub-menu exit. why not go directly to the next sub-menu
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Excellent step by step guide, but I especially value the supporting reports that are generated at the tail end. Really helps with confirming our longer term financial and tax strategies. Thanks.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Needs Improvement
on April 2, 2016

Turbo Tax needs better instructions for helping with filing K-1's for MLP investments, particularly with sales and reconciling with the info on 1099-B. They can provide instruction on how to calculate the partnership basis (which is included in the K-1 package) and how to calculate the AMT basis (the info is supplied on the K-1 sales schedule). Finally, they can provide help on how to deal with sales that are not the complete disposition of a position, and how to deal with different holding periods or when a partnership has more than one business activity.
Many people own MLPs and TT needs to up its game in this area.
What's not so great: Needs better instructions for K-1's
Pros: I bought or sold investments

No state estimate vouchers
on April 2, 2016

This is the first time that I have experienced the problem that state estimate vouchers were not automatically printed. For that matter they do not appear to be available.

Missing proceedings

Note: I am in California. My computer is an iMac. In an earlier life I was paid to prepare individual income tax returns via CCH.
1. Turbotax stated that the standard deduction exceeded my itemized deductions without providing the total of my itemized deductions. I had to proceed on faith, without details as to the choice.
2. I could not find a phone number to call a Turbotax expert when I had a problem (see # 3 below).
3. Advice that a "Calculation" is being made could not be stopped, and I had to terminate the computer to proceed, thus losing the entries had previously entered.
What's great about it: Very accurate use of data
What's not so great: Inability to see tax return before finalization

Turbo Tax 2015
on April 2, 2016
Posted by: SteverMK
Info sheets, MSA contribution worksheets, HSA contributions seemed redundant and confusing. No mention of 2015 contributions for 2014, which I had to research elsewhere. Foreign Tax Credit questionnaire usually pops up when foreign taxes are incurred, but not on this return. If I had no prior knowledge of this I would have missed out on the credit. The detailed questionnaire did not come up until I pulled up Form 1116.
What's great about it: Basic information is easy to locate and input, import feature is very convenient
What's not so great: Instructions and navigation between HSA elements is confusing. Form 1116 questions did not come up
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments, I moved
