2015 Tax Year Review
on April 1, 2016
Posted by: RichNB
I have a MAC. The fact that i had to turn off some of my privacy and security settings to download your product was annoying to begin with. You should have worked this out with Apple so that I don't have to take that step.
Then, and much more annoying, I was many hours into filling out my return when I realized that i couldn't save it. In fact, most menu items were grayed out. As with prior editions, I had been assuming that TurboTax was backing up, but it wasn't. I called your help desk, and after getting through the automated system, someone tried to help me but couldn't, so I was transferred to your MAC help desk. This person was able to help after quite a bit of time, but she had to get on and off the phone numerous times to get advise. It came down to having to turn off my privacy and security settings again so that the program could update itself, and then it wasn't clear if I re-installed, would i or wouldn't I lose what i had done. Fortunately i didn't, but it was tense there for a while.
You really need to fix this situation.
Lastly, I spent time entering educational expense data only to find that i didn't qualify due to income limitations. TurboTax didn't tell me that, I had to do a web search. TurboTax should have told me that up front.
What's great about it: Pros consistent with prior years. I have been a customer for a number of years.
What's not so great: MAC Edition, inability to save, lack of Educational Reimbursement advise

I am generally happy with 2015 TurboTax

On accounts where RMDs do not apply, one should not have to deal with a series of questions, referring to potential penalties.
What's great about it: Clearly stated questions, and expanations
What's not so great: Dealing with NonQualified 1099s is unnessarily threateining.

Problems, as usual
on April 1, 2016
Posted by: skofs
--I wasn't very happy that the first version of Turbotax that I bought online would not open on my Mac. The CD version that I bought fixed that, after a mail delay. --I wasn't very happy that Turbotax made it hard to get back to the specific screens where I could correct entry errors that I made. You can't make changes directly on the forms (which are easy enough to call up and review).
What's great about it: Improved interview
What's not so great: Very hard to correct errors on forms
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I have used TurboTax for years and have always felt confident that the program has helped me get every deduction that I qualify for. This year I filed using eFile for the first time and once again, TurboTax made that process very easy. Thank You TurboTax!
What's great about it: So helpful in walking me through every step of the way!
What's not so great: none

investment income support was critical
on April 1, 2016
Posted by: Nate3000
The ability to import investment transactions was outstanding overall. The only problem was that when the investment line items were imported, the item name is a combination of lengthy asset codes as well as the noun name of the security. Oftentimes, the noun name was not visible in the display field, and I tried to click in the field and scroll to get to the noun name, but I was unable to scroll using the arrow key. The cursor did not respond. Instead, I had to click my mouse at the very right edge of the field, which would cause the text at the edge to jump to the left, exposing the next section of text. Sometimes I had to do this several times to get to the actual noun description of the security. That was a hassle. Better than typing it all in from scratch, though!!
What's great about it: nearly everything imported directly
What's not so great: had some trouble editing the imported items
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments, I moved

Used TT since DOS days

You really need experience with TT to use it. If you have no investments, etc. you're ok. But years of experience gets me thru each year. Would not choose another brand.
What's great about it: Can handle most of my situations
What's not so great: Still cannot handle IL State very well
Pros: I bought or sold investments
