Complexity made simple!

I've used TurboTax for over 10 years, with confidence that my returns were correct and with the best outcome possible. Owning several residential rental properties, TurboTax enables me to deal with every aspect of rental income and expenses in a simple, straight-forward manner. Each year the software gets more powerful, yet it feels familiar from the year before; this enables me to complete my returns quickly. Finally, the E-File function is simple and dramatically reduces IRS processing time. I get my refunds directly deposited to my bank usually within a couple weeks. I really appreciate how TurboTax software cleverly hides its power behind a user-friendly, intuitive interface; all software should be so well designed!
What's great about it: Each section of tax return is handled in small segments, one question at a time. Eliminates getting overwhelmed.
What's not so great: Won't open prior year (Turbotax-prepared) returns from within current year software.

Good federal forms help, wimpy state help

I like the convenience of using TurboTax year after year, having data transfer forward where relevant. The Easy Step feature has gotten refined over the years and works great. It walks you thru the weeds of tax forms silently doing the calculations for you. It groups sections of forms together and let's you do them in "chunks" and in any order you prefer. You can come back later and update if needed. Having last year's values next to this year's inputs is very nice.
Where TurboTax falls down is in the state tax help. They do provide the necessary forms and it does the calculations but the online help pretty much doesn't exist. They don't explain anything, terms have no linked help. They assume you know what all the questions are talking about and if you don't... well you are on your own. Intuit needs to step up in this area.!

What's great about it: The Easy-Step navigation is great!
What's not so great: State help is barest of bare minimum. Basically just e-forms.

Eventually, the software gets the job done, but it feels like it has lost its fluidity--the error messages are not very clear. It does not consider the fact that the user spends only a few hours in one day of a year to operate the software, so that few hours of interaction should be made very user friendly.
What's great about it: "Its Deductible" Part
What's not so great: Not as fluid as the older versions
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Disappointed

Extremely disappointed this year in the version. I've used this every year since 07 and I've never experienced the issues I did this year. It wouldn't preload the previous year and each time I tried it just continued to freeze up. I deleted the program and reloaded twice with the same results. I finally gave up that it would ever import it. To add insult to injury, when I finished putting in all the information and almost completing my taxes, it shut down and didn't save the information. Of course, I had to do my taxes twice and it took hours due to all the issues! My biggest regret is....I threw the store receipt away, so I can't even try to get a refund. I certainly hope that no one else went through this. I guess next year its time to try a different company.

I am mostly pleased with the ease of use. but I accidentally hit the S corp column and I could find no way to delete my error. I spent a lot of time and worry trying to get it off my return. it did not happen until the very end at e-filing time. I did not e-file last year. also I again had to stop my process because there was no advanced warning that ID would be required. and so had to stop and obtain more documents.
What's great about it: mostly ease of use. even if complicated sometimes because of terminology.
What's not so great: could not find way clear miss hit section. didn't let know ahead of time ID needed.

Oops

I had put in my 1099-misc for my schedule E out of sequence and when I went went back to continue the guided input it skipped the review of the schedule E
PS on the questions following this you asked if I had kids I was wondering if you meant ever or living at home
What's great about it: Very easy process
What's not so great: Skipped over schedule E after I put in 1099-misc

Rental property

Cannot input just a straight mileage for vehicle usage on rental property without listing vehicle as a business vehicle. Personal vehicle is only used for business purpose a couple times a year when tending to rental property
What's great about it: Mostly easy to use with a few exceptions
What's not so great: Difficult to input vehicle usage on rental income screens.
