This customer did not provide a text review.
What's great about it: straightforward - lots of small steps
What's not so great: a few puzzling parts, a bit too much back and forth to print only the tax forms I wanted.

TT Premium almost perfect
on March 31, 2016
Posted by: RichTechBio
PROs TurboTax Premium has improved the transfer of information from the 2014 tax return to the 2015 tax return so very few modifications were needed TurboTax Premium for 2015 has added a few extra capabilities for complex tax issues.
CONs TurboTax Premium was able to import K-1 data from publicly traded partnerships BUT does not import some of detailed data on partnerships that have income and expenses in multiple countries outside the US. These foreign data items (foreign income, foreign tax, foreign royalties, etc.) are the most complex aspect of a tax return to enter into the correct lines of a 1040 tax return and easily prone to errors. Correctly importing this data would save many hours of reading instructions and trying to interpret various labels for income and expenses that are not identical between a K-1 and the 1040. TT does not automatically handle the extra forms required when a K-1 from a publicly traded partnership has income on lines 1 and line 2or3 and must generate subsidiary K-1s.
What's great about it: Covers nearly all filing factors for federal and states
What's not so great: Still misses importing sufficient details from publicly traded K-1 partnership

Tax filing for dummies
on March 31, 2016

I have been using TT for years. I am now at a point where I use the self guided option up until the very end. Then, I take the time to let TT guide me through the entire form. This way, i get every chance to get every deduction to lower my tax liability. This year, doing it that way, I saved almost $1,000! I start working on them usually in February so that if I am getting a refund, I will get it sooner and if I have to pay, I can wait to file until the last minute. E-filing is easy and very convenient and I do it every year. All in all, the process lowers my tax liability and does so more cheaply and conveniently than a tax professional.
What's great about it: TT does not let you skip a task easily. I've been using it for several years.
What's not so great: You still have to have good records and type stuff in
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

Dissatisfaction
on March 31, 2016

I'm totally dissatisfied with the establishment of a password for paying for e-filing CA by mail. I changed the password repeatedly and never had it approved after establishing it. This never happened in years past, so why was it a goat rope this year? Then you tried to add an audit fee with having the fee taking from my return That's when I gave up and decided to mail in the CA return
What's great about it: TurboTax return procedure
What's not so great: See b

State vs no State
on March 31, 2016
Posted by: DaveLESr
The programs has a problem where if I use the program for my mom, who lives in LA, vs Texas for myself. The programs does not understand that my address does not need the State tax stuff. It does give the option to skip, but I think the program should know if Texas has no state tax from the address then not ask to print state info from a different name.
What's great about it: Good program
What's not so great: State for different folks
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Mistake on state pension fund calculation
on March 31, 2016
Posted by: StrawberrryGal
The questions about my state pension treated it as if it is an IRA. It wasted my time and gave an incorrect calculation total. I had to go back and start over on that section.
What's not so great: Did not give me the correct questions to answer
