Succinct Review

I would recommend that anyone use this software to file their federal and state taxes. If you let the software guide you through the process, it will present you with all appropriate questions and then you need to answer them correctly. Program is excellent!
What's great about it: all instructions were very clear
What's not so great: none
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Makes the complicated easy
on March 30, 2016

I would highly recommend Turbo Tax for anyone -- and I often do. Over the years it has made the preparation easy, accurate, and quick. I actually look forward to working on my taxes, knowing the results will stand-up to IRS scrutiny. Thanks T.T.
What's great about it: I liked the easy entries and results calculated. I also liked that I could call and get questions answered.
What's not so great: Can't think of any.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

missing former versions' quick links
on March 30, 2016

Still a great product but some things available in earlier versions have disappeared. My biggest problem with FY 15 version is that I can't highlight a final entry on the 1040 and be directed back to the entries that are contributed to it. This may have disappeared a couple of years ago but this year I found myself wasting time trying to find numbers I might have entered wrong.
What's great about it: Finds missing entries easily
What's not so great: Can't click on a final number and see where it came from

Turbo Tax makes filing easy, accurate, and quick. Questions were quickly answered by phone. I often recommend T.T. to others; and when they use it, I'm thanked.
What's great about it: Easy, Accurate. Trouble?--quick phone call will fix it!
What's not so great: Can't think of any.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Easy to use

Just married. Simulated filing jointly versus separately. Able to complete what ever I had info for.
What's great about it: Can simulate different tax situations
What's not so great: Needs some work on obscure forms, like K1 for foreign companies
Pros: I bought or sold investments

nicely done version

Where I had 2 different income sources on a single K1 TurboTax indicated that I needed to open a second worksheet but did not make that happen nor did it elaborate on what I was to do.
Other than this, the 2015 version of TurboTax was easy to use and a steady improvement over prior versions.
What's great about it: east to use
What's not so great: difficult to correct some errors

Problems this year
on March 30, 2016
Posted by: NOYB1000
When I went to input my 1099INT information I was able to hit edit and it brought up each company from last time. I just had to enter the amounts in the appropriate boxes. When I went to enter my 1099DIV information I expected the same thing. I hit edit next to the company's name I wanted to enter data for, but to my surprise it wanted me to enter the name of the company. First time I just thought it was a check, but went I went back to my list of 1099DIV companies it list my latest input as a new company. I finally went to help and was told that I had to do a workaround and switch to forms and input the data right on the form. I switched. each form then had the company's name on it and I was able to enter the data. This is the first time this has happened to me s I have been using Turbo Tax for several years. Must be a bug or something. Turbo Tax needs to correct this problem.
What's great about it: Worked good this year like previous years in leading me through the tax forms
What's not so great: Problems with transferring company names for dividends from the last time I filed to this time.

Hate that they put investments in Premier!!
on March 30, 2016

After using TurboTax for many years, they added investments that most people have to Premier (it used to be in Deluxe) so they can charge you more. There was an uproar about it last year and they refunded the difference but still decided to go ahead and leave it there this year. BAD DECISION!! I will be looking elsewhere for my tax software in the future.
What's great about it: fairly straight forward
What's not so great: have to pay more for software since the change
