more complicated than I was anticipating
on March 29, 2016

Some questions were unanswered and the program didn't provide the directions. This was disconcerting and leaves me uneasy. Seems like this program has a different style from previous years. Not as clear.
What's great about it: Best help on the market
What's not so great: didn't have the answers to questions
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Patient tech help needed - and received!

I've been doing taxes using TurboTax for a very long time - I started with MacInTax - it's been a marriage saver. I was a beta tester. Back in the old days I had to print test pages and line up my dot-matrix printer to the form - and it still isn't print very well nor very legibly. Some things have improved over the years but I managed to find a major fail this year. In my mind the online version and the desk-top version were the same thing. I could work on my taxes from anywhere with the online version and then go home and work on my desk-top. NO! It doesn't work that way. I started online and immediately became confused because my info from previous years didn't carry over. Then it got worse. TurboTax phone support helped me sort the issue out and even sent me a free copy of Premier. That was a wonderful fix. Kudos to TurboTax. But then I tried to file electronically. I couldn't pay for the state program because when I tried to go online to pay (through the desk-top version) the unfinished version of my return opened and I certainly didn't want to do anything with that. Terrified I called TT again. The bottom line - after an hour on the phone trying different things we decided that the only solution was a new account - that done (different email address) the return was completed, has been accepted by both the IRS and the state and is now printing out. Nothing left to do but write checks. And that's another thing. We manage our finances very carefully and seldom get a refund. TurboTax's emphasis on receiving refunds, getting refunds, optimizing refunds is annoying and irritating. How about reducing total tax, paying the least, managing your finances so you aren't letting the government do your savings for you. A tax refund is not a gift. It's your money.
What's great about it: Good telephone help from TurboTax
What's not so great: Shouldn't have needed so much help from TurboTax

Consistent and Reliable Year After Year
on March 29, 2016

I rely upon TurboTax to final Federal and State taxes. It is consistent in results and reliable. No complaints. No problems. Seems to perform faster this year (2015 tax year).
What's great about it: Consistently reliable year after year. Have used TurboTax since 1994 without any problems.
What's not so great: For entry of contribution deductions, should allow review of imported information.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

When printing all forms for review, four different worksheets were not printed, so I had to search for them and print them individually.
My income increased since last year. Colorado fined me for not increasing my estimated payments to cover this. My estimated payments had covered last year's income.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Turbo tax once again makes the tax process simpler. Tax time is an anxious time and we need products to guide a through the maze of form and laws.
What's great about it: ease of use
What's not so great: the state should be free to efile
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Won't Update IRS Files
on March 29, 2016
Posted by: Frank47
After the initial installation which went fine, TurboTax 2015 would not update the IRS tax files. Instead, it would lock down my computer (I have Windows 10).
Since it had updated the files without any problems when I first installed TurboTax 2015, I filed my taxes without the latest updates, hoping that any new updates would not apply to me.
Come on TurboTax, please get this fixed. I checked online and there seemed to be lots of others having a similar problem.
What's great about it: Seemed to work fine except for the NOT UPDATING
What's not so great: You should fix the problem of updating the IRS files
