Straight forward tax prep

Not much more to say.
Straight forward, simple, reliable.
What's great about it: Simple, straight forward, easy to use
What's not so great: Turbo Tax updated itself every day I started it up
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I had only 1 insurmountable problem, which prevented me from e-filing my Federal return. I got an uncorrectable error processing Box 16 of a K-1. The error was Code C, Line 2, Col 3 shows an interest expense but no foreign source. The foreign source, Canada, was entered. I could not pass this balk. Repeated tries failed. I finally gave up and mailed the return.
I would gladly have given 5 stars if it were not for this loop problem. Several years of using Turbo Tax were problem free.

What's great about it: Very clear entry instructions
What's not so great: Less than adequate instrucrions for K-1's

Turbo Tax Premier 2015

The program is very good in terms of guiding the user through the tax form preparation process but the interface could use some work to make it more user friendly. For example, when working on any section within the Deductions & Credits module, the program needs to return to the same section that you just completed instead of returning to the top of the Deductions & Credits section list each time. It is tedious to have to scroll 4, 5, or more screens each time you finish one of the sections near the bottom of the module list.
This same comment applies to all the modules, not just the deductions & credits module.
Overall I feel the program is better than similar tax programs.

What's great about it: Fairly easy to use with good guidance throughout
What's not so great: Program doesn't return to the next step when working on your own

TurboTax

We have been using TurboTax for around 20 years. My wife, who is a tax attorney by background, originally said, "What do we need this for"? After I did the taxes the first time, she lets me do them every year.
What's great about it: Efficient, accurate, allows you to do the job well
What's not so great: Some "quirks" in the program, but don't affect final result
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Terrible experience, crashed multiple times

I've used TT for over 20 years and never had a crash. I've had multiple crashes and lost data; had to re enter multiple times. What happened to Auto-Save? Where are the other user friendly items? If not fixed by next year, I'll go to your competition!

What's not so great: Crashes, crashes, never had this problem before (20 years)

makes my life a little easier

Tax returns are a pain and time consuming but TurboTax gives me more time to spend on other things with its automatic calculations and importing functions.
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: sometimes I can't find an answer to my questions especially relating to stocks
