Stock Sale Transactions Not so easy
on March 28, 2016
Posted by: 00GASMAN
I believe that the entry of RSU transactions information is a bit problematic (has changed this past year and maybe I missed it in a prior year?). I tried to enter basis information because I have done so in prior years and removing the basis information was somewhat difficult to do because the error message gave no indication of how to fix it. Having multiple RSU sales, it created the same error multiple times and the same frustration in trying to fix it.
What's great about it: Great that it loads from brokerage!
What's not so great: Not so great when its an employee RSU
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Love It!

As a former IRS employee, I'm very particular about how I prepare and file my return. TurboTax walks me through the return, step-by-step, and allows me to flag areas that I'm not prepared to complete. I also like that it allows me to print out all the worksheets used for the final return. Good job, TurboTax!
What's great about it: Easy - Accurate Calculations - Affordable
What's not so great: Forms were difficult to get to
Pros: I bought or sold investments

No improvement for K=1s
on March 28, 2016
Posted by: CKM0123459i02t
Transfer of information is incomplete
no help or explanation for many required entries
NO help in coordinating supplemental information for Multiple k-1s
Check box to waive filing K-1 still requires K-1 and supplemental....NO EXPLANATION
This is supposed to be one of the advantages of the premier version
What's great about it: Rest of categories, OK
What's not so great: K-1 handling no better this year
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I had same experience last year: The supplemental Income and Loss Schedule E of my 1040 Turbo Tax form is tricky when the second section comes up.
I was more careful when using it this year, as I discovered one entry was typed on the form on two different supplemental pages.
Once I discovered the error, I was able to correct the additional entry on my 2015 forms. But I must fill out form 1040X for 2014 to amend the form I filed by e-file last year. I was not as careful last year and overlooked the amount of total for royalty entries.
Hope it works out that I am able to receive the additional $96 that I failed to claim overpaid in 2014.
The amended tax form was easy to work with, Have not heard back from Turbo Tax agent online
What's great about it: I appreciate the ease of bringing in info from my last tax form.
What's not so great: I am always skeptical when I have to read the tax help blurs. I have more misunderstanding overtime I read qt & ans.

Spacifics Please

Turbo tax is great however their explanations of credits & questions to get them are vague. Ex. If filing Head of household, when trying to help you get the child tax credit or EIC it asks if you have an custody agreement. If you check yes, it assumes that the agreement allows YOU to claim the child and gives you no option to check if you have given that up to the other parent. Then when you file you are rejected because the other parent already filed using the dependent child(s) social. Even when you follow the instructions to correct the error you are given no more information than the original questions. This section definitely needs more details for different scenarios. It has tripped me up for the last three years as these credits keep changing each year but their questions to get you the credit haven't. Other than that....Great software.
What's great about it: Loved the importing from other entities
What's not so great: Questions are too vague
