TurboTax is good, but the types have changed through the years and become more expensive. Because I have rental property, I had to upgrade to premier. I had been using deluxe which is cheaper.
What's great about it: Fairly easy to follow.
What's not so great: Wanted to edit student education expense but had a difficult time finding where to go.

Comprehensive Tax Program

Those who have income from sources other than salary often pay accountants thru the nose for tax services. But to be honest, they have to charge for the time it takes to enter all the data the IRS wants. While I find it easier to enter my data manually, Turbo Tax offers the option to download 1099s from banks and brokerage firms. Great section on maximizing deductions. My one complaint is that the program could be more helpful in filling out the 1040ES for the next year. But I wonder, can astro-physicists figure out their AMT for the following year?
What's great about it: Easy to follow instructions; help available if you need it.
What's not so great: Could be more helpful figuring next year's income.

I have a very complicated tax return, but I've been using Turbo Tax for years. The biggest problem now is locating all the supporting documentation to fill in the blanks.
I did have to do some searching to find how to designate military pay for Michigan.
What's great about it: Great Hand Holding, walking me through
What's not so great: Military & Reserve Pay for some states
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Great Help Resources

A situation arose in 2015 when a sub-leased rental home exposed us to an additional federal tax liability and the requirement to file in an additional state (and pay state taxes)return. It was creatively and legally remedied by TurboTax staff accountants, helping to save us taxes and potentially, additional professional preparers' fees.
What's great about it: Knowlegable staff
What's not so great: long hold times

Excellent Tax Prep Software

For the most part, I love TurboTax. I have been using it for several years, and have always been very happy with their products. This year, however, I was prompted to purchase software for a state that did not require me to file a return, and I was told that I needed to file other state returns that were also not needed. Additionally, even for a state that I did purchase, I was told that there were certain forms that I need to manually prepare and enter the data from. I use TurboTax so that I DON'T have to manually prepare forms!!
What's great about it: Guides you through everything step-by-step
What's not so great: Prompted me to file unnecessary state returns

Didn't like the changes from last year, if you stay consistent is easier.
