Have been using turbotax for over 15 years now, for both home and business. Has always been a good product. Effortless, yet very powerful.
What's great about it: Simple and easy to use. yet flexible enough to get very detailed if necessary.
What's not so great: Sometimes over simplified
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Desktop Version Issues
on March 25, 2016
Posted by: Bob128
I downloaded the desktop version (premier). When filing my return, the TurboTax program did not allow me to to pay for the State filing by credit card. I had to call TurboTax to give them my credit card information. This has happened to me in the past.
The desktop version has very unclear instructions on whether I have an option to put my license information into TurboTax. It looks like it is required. The Online version has a button allowing you to skip the license information submission. I think the Desktop version should have a similar button to clarify things.
What's great about it: Relatively easy to navigate
What's not so great: Had problems with paying for state filing and confusion over license information

For TurboTax Premier, it's already pretty pricy compares to other tax software. Additional cost for state e-file is not acceptable.
What's great about it: Good software
What's not so great: Additional cost for state e-file is not acceptable

We have a unique situation in that we adopted five underaged children and are receiving a social security benefit for each. Finding out how to report their social security benefit was very difficult, both in Turbo Tax and researching IRS and other websites.
What's great about it: Many options to process
What's not so great: Unique situations not easily answered
Pros: I had a baby

Error Checking
on March 25, 2016
Posted by: broncobill49
Every year I get frustrated with the Turbo Tax error review. It usually gives me some criptic comment that requires me to go to the actual form and try to figure out what the problem is. I don't want to go to the forms nor do I understand them. That is the reason I bought the product in the first place.
Also, I find that the problems to be corrected are problems that Turbo Tax Creates
What's great about it: Turbo tax does error checking
What's not so great: Comes up with issues it created

Would like the system to have more prompts in the final stages of electronically filing- first it wiped out my driver to the printer, once that was up, I was never sure it filed?
What's not so great: the system gets lost in the final stages of filing electronically

Easy to use

Overall, a nice program. Worth the money. I would need to find all this information anyway, even if I hired an outside accountant. I believe I do a better job of tax prep simply because I know my own situation better than someone I hire. The disadvantage would be what a trained accountant might know with regard to new tax law changes. However, TurboTax does a very nice job of letting you know at the beginning, and along the way of what possible changes have happened, and gives you plenty to read to become aware of how it might affect your own personal situation.
I have used Turbotax for years, and will continue to do so. For me, it is a "no-brainer".
What's great about it: Nicely done interface. Not too many changes from year to year.
What's not so great: Needs an easier way to change the size of "forms view"
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
