The software has errors and does not fill out rental property on the forms correctly. If property is used for both personal and rental use the software should ask how many days rented and how many days personal use. Instead it only asks for the number of days rented and assumes it was empty the rest of the time. It also does not ask for the purchase date so it has no way of knowing how many days the property was not rented if not owned all year. On my tax form it indicated zero days of personal use and there was no way to change the information to correct this.
What's great about it: Easy to use, fill out the forms for you
What's not so great: some questions are not clear on what they are asking for. Rental property section does not fill out form correctly.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Have used TurboTax from day one. Has done nothing but gotten better over the many years I've had it. My returns are relatively straight forward, but Turbo Tax makes it all simple and easy.
What's great about it: Everything you need at the touch of a finger
What's not so great: Nothing comes to mind

all the fees that appear after i've spent time preparing the documents is disappointing, then there is a filing fee as well as a processing fee. that should be in big bold letters. Also, should be more help guides on how to file NJ resident, NY work.
What's great about it: you can do it yourself
What's not so great: fees and little helpful support

The guide feature is very helpful but it would be nice if when you go back to edit you didn't have to go through all the steps just to get to the next topic
What's great about it: System makes sure you don't forget anything
What's not so great: I had to buy Premier just because I own a few stocks

2016 Tax Software for 2015 Buggy, Freezes
on March 23, 2016

Finally was able to get my taxes filed, but the software kept freezing, esp when accomplishing calculations. Had to force quit, at least five times, then relaunch to complete everything. Also found a couple of errors with the foreign tax calculations, which made me repeat the inputs several times in order to get it straightened out. The other error I noted was that the software did not carry over our 8606 IRA tax basis forms automatically as it did in past years. Had to go back and correct that. Unfortunately, I found that I missed this glitch for my 2014 taxes, and as a result overpaid my taxes about $75 that year. Not a big deal, but not worth trying to do an amended tax submission. No doubt, however, the software developers have a great deal of difficulty in keeping up with our ever increasing tax laws, so I guess I need to cut them some slack, but this was still frustrating.
What's great about it: Carries Over Last Year's Info, Mostly, But Not All
What's not so great: Freezes While Calculating, Had To Force Quit
Pros: I bought or sold investments
