Keep Personal Taxes Personal

I've been using Turbo-Tax for many years. I worked for Jackson-Hewitt 2 tax seasons and was given a "benefit" of using their tax software to prepare my own return. After using theirs for a huge variety of their customers with all types of filing situations, I preferred to use Turbo-Tax to file my own return. Among other reasons, I was able to transfer my tax data into Turbo-Tax from a Quicken tax file without having to copy it over and put it in the correct places. This is done automatically, plus it keeps an itemized list of each expense contributing to the total.
In previous years I would enter non-cash contributions into an It's Deductible file throughout the year as I made each contribution. Then when completing the tax return I would be taken to my It's Deductible account and could transfer the saved records. This year, I was able to use It's Deductible, but had to enter the data for each contribution again. I would prefer if I could transfer the data as I had previously. It's easier to enter it one at a time as I make the contribution than entering several contributions many months later.
Overall, I have been well pleased with the completeness and ease of completing the return. I have called it the most accurate tax return I have ever completed because it helps you avoid many common mistakes that can be costly in time and money when the IRS finds your mistake!
I highly recommend this product to anyone.

What's great about it: The greatest advantage is you keep your personal information personal!
What's not so great: I found the use of It's Deductible cumbersome and incomplete this year.

Better than adverstised!

We were so pleased with how easy the software was to navigate. Quick and easy. Took no more time than if we had made the trip to the tax preparer and paid them to do it, except it cost us a fraction of what we paid them. On-line and phone support (Mike was great) was much more than we ever expected. Highly recommend the product!
What's great about it: Easy to use. Included on-line forms for foreign asset reporting that H&R software didn't have last year!
What's not so great: Printed "vouchers" for 2016 projected taxes. Didn't know what to do with them.

Great Product!

This is a great product. HOWEVER, there is NOWHERE to go to start a 1040EZ. I do my son's taxes. He is 19 and just needs the 1040EZ.
As easy as the general product is to use, you fell WAY SHORT for this feature.
What's great about it: Return for my son done in 25 minutes!
What's not so great: CAN'T START WITH A 1040EZ!

Best Software

I have been using TurboTax since 1991. I like the ease of use, I always have TurboTax ask the questions and how it will review your forms and find any errors.

Very disappointing

I am a long-time TurboTax user. I have always appreciated the ability to print my return and the projections for next year, including the forms for my estimated tax payments. None of that was provided this year.
What's great about it: Very thorough and detailed process for entering information and filing return
What's not so great: Unable to print a copy of the return; no projections for current year

A more complicated tax filing

I am not sure why, but my investment income from other countries would not allow me to enter the different countries when some countries were identical from different investments. After fighting with it - I went on and did my state taxes, saved the file and tried the next day and it let me make the entires - it was odd.
Also, I bought an energy efficient home. It was built to be energy efficient from the ground up. THe help in turbo tax said you can get a deduction for buying an energy efficient home - but I could not find where to enter it, and it never asked. I tried going through the IRS documentation - but I didn't have the time - so I gave up. I use turbo tax to get my taxes done quickly - I don't have time to read everything the IRS puts out, it would have been nice for turbo tax to make that part easy.
What's great about it: Covered all areas
What's not so great: Skipped over some items that I had to force

Minor issues

This software is good but I am not sure if there was a problem with the software or my MAC. The system would hang and have to be rebutted several times through data entry to submission of the files. Only a little annoying. The rest of the system was good.
What's great about it: This took me through additional steps that got me more refunds
What's not so great: The software stalled out a few times and had to be rebooted. Not sure if it was problem with the software or MAC
