I have a complicated situation with multiple investments and also self employment income. This is the thirteenth year that I've used Turbotax and each year it gets better while the tax code gets worse.
What's great about it: Finds things a non professional would never thin k of

A painful process

The software repeatedly locked into a repeating 'calculating' loop not allowing data input. The only remedy was to save what was input, close the program and re-open.
What's not so great: software repeatedly locked in to 'calculating' loop not allowing data input. The original disc purchased was returned.

Overall Good
What's great about it: Ease of use
What's not so great: Additional charge for state e-file when we are given 5 free federal e-files. This makes limited sense!

Good until the end

Up until last year I efiled. Once again the efiling procedures were cumbersome so I filed by mail to assure I didn't make an error.
In past years the directions were pretty easy to follow. This year and last, not so much.
What's great about it: Thorough
What's not so great: Confusing to e-file/I filed by mail/Not as easy to do as prior years

Turbo Tax Does it All
on March 21, 2016

I've used Turbo Tax for many years (introduced to the program by my son-in-law), and have felt confident that calculations are done correctly and according to the law to determine the taxes I owe.
I didn't understand why there was a charge to e-file my state return, so I am sending in a paper copy. The plus is that the returns were all printed and look complete. Even with rather poor eyesight, I was able to navigate the various entries with no particular problems. I like getting the updates, although I sometimes wonder if they affect the end result.
What's great about it: Interprets tax laws, calculate, and print. DONE!
What's not so great: These instructions are light & hard to read.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

So So Easy

I have used Turbo Tax for all but one year in the last (I'm not even positive, because I've changed computers, but I know) at least 10 years.I used another software one year and was so frustrated, I swore I would never leave Turbo Tax again. My uncle is a retired CPA, and I found out he used Turbo Tax! This year I have to say I didn't like how it downloaded. I'm not real literate when it comes to computers (another reason I love Turbo Tax, it does the work for you) but it didn't open up. You had to click on each file that Turbo Tax itself has. The drives, the info for each file, I think there are 4 or 5. This is the first time I've ever had this happen. Turbo Tax has ALWAYS opened up in its own spot, in its own "file". Now it's in my Documents. That's just where it came up on the screen with the list of files, for me to open and download. But once they were downloaded it put the shortcut on my desktop, and we were back in business, just like the old familiar Turbo Tax that I know and love and... recommend to everyone. I used to do my boys' taxes, now they go on-line to Turbo Tax and do them their selves. It's that easy! I did daycare in my home for years and being a self employed business with depreciation, you are talking a lot of figures. But with Turbo Tax just fill in the blanks. Of course being a business you need to keep your records, and sometimes you have to check for the previous years numbers, but I'm sure now it probably brings all that forward, too. It's so so easy!
And...it rechecks. If you missed, or it thinks it's not right, at the end. Back you go until it's right. Love my Turbo Tax!
What's great about it: You just fill in the blanks
What's not so great: The way it downloaded this year

The filing was reasonably seamless between IRS and state filings. I had only two issues both of which were handled directly and quickly. The FAQ/Blog helped in instance and the Chat in another. The CS personnel were knowledgable and solved my problem.
What's great about it: Seamless state/Fed filing, great support
What's not so great: none
Pros: I bought or sold investments, I moved
