2016 TurboTax Comments

I had a major problem using the 2016 TT interactive feature of transferring data directly from my investment companies to my tax return. The data was inaccurate and mind blowing: it showed data transfers of over a million $ and multiple buy and sell transactions for the same stock. The income amount transferred for my State tax return was an incredible number. This feature was so screwed up that I erased everything and manually reentered the data; I had no problems thereafter. I am a Turbo Tax user for many years: since this software was initiated - never had any problems as I did with the 2016 tax return.
What's great about it: Solves many problems in understanding tax rules and forms
What's not so great: Not confident of direct-data transfer from investment companies

Key things missing

Lots of manual effort via forms view to apply my refunds to 2016 estimated taxes...and then manually calculate the reduced April estimated payment.
Had go to Missouri.gov to print estimated tax vouchers.
No way to opt out of printing federal estimated vouchers -- I do these electronically and don't need printed vouchers.
What's not so great: Missing option to apply refunds to 2016 estimated tax; Didn't offer printing MO Estimated vouchers

printing for my records

the tab which says print takes me to a screen with choice of save as PDF or preview pages to be printed - i have done both of those but nowhere can i find a button to click to actually print the forms

Rarely makes mistakes

I have been using TurboTax from intuit.com for well over 20 years. The only problem I had was because someone filed a return to the IRS, in my name in 2014. As a result I had to hand carry my returns to the local IRS office to file. I filled out a fraud report with the filing. This year I noticed that TurboTax improved the filing procedure to protect my identity. I just filed today, the return looks good, I downloaded all my Capital One investment data right into TurboTax. I'm retired, this product gives me peace of mind, and the price is very reasonable and tax deductible. Love it!!!
What's great about it: Easy to use, saves a lot of work, E-filing is a breeze
What's not so great: None but then agan I am not a tax pro

Getting worse this year

Not sure if I would use this again next year. The price went up and funtionality went down. Your competitors look better every year, this year is the first year I would not recommend this program to a friend.
What's great about it: Ableto upload some infofrom previous years.
What's not so great: Questions are not well answered, going back to previous answers is more difficult, review does not allow simple changes

Very Happy Returns

As always I found TurboTax to meet my needs. This year most of the 1099's I received by mail I was notified that revised copies will be sent. With TuboTax feature of linking to my accounts I was able to get the most correct information by the time I filed.
What's great about it: Link to brokerage accounts
What's not so great: Grey tabs
Pros: I bought or sold investments
