2015 Federal & State Taxes
on March 21, 2016

Turbo tax program is easy to use and offers step by step instructions on all applicable tax situations. I am a repeat user and have always found it simple and accurate to import information from partner financial institutions. I've always bought the top line software whether I really needed it or not and have had great success for year preparing and filing my Federal and state taxes.
What's great about it: Very easy to follow along with Turbo tax prompts and information is checked against prior year turbo tax information.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Some Improvements to consider
on March 21, 2016

As a turbo-tax user since 1996 it is obvious that I like your product overall. However, as I was entering my itemized deductions there was no change in the owe/refund display. When I started the display showed a $127.00 refund. This display never changed over the course of the data entry. When I finished my health insurance data an update of the display occurred showing a large tax payment was due. I know this is psychological and what I owed was expected but immediate updates showing a larger and larger refund helps sooth the process that is totally undercut by Obamacare costs ( missed the subsidy by about $2000.00 and therefore owed what I had received in subsidy. My bad). Also, when I first used turbo tax there was a voice that helped guide you through the process automatically. I liked that but you removed that about the year 2000 or so. Misery loves company especially when doing taxes.
What's great about it: Very good question asking system
What's not so great: No immediate tax owe/refund calculations as data is entered
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Steady support over the years

I have been using Turbo Tax for at least 20 years. Somehow each year it gets better at helping to get answers to those obscure questions that always seem to come up. This year is no exception. Even as my tax return gets more complicated, the program seems to keep things simple. I won't say I look forward to doing my taxes, but with Turbo Tax, at least I don't dread it so much.
What's great about it: Dependable preparation with free filing
What's not so great: K-1s always seem to be a challenge
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Duplicate downloads for Investment Income
on March 21, 2016
Posted by: Noncikname
When downloading from Fidelity where we have both individual and joint accounts the income from the joint accounts is downloaded for both my wife and myself resulting in duplicate reporting and over statement of income. If I am not careful to go back and delete this income for my wife I pay taxes twice for the same income. I don't know whether this is a TurboTax or Fidelity issue.
What's great about it: Downloading investment income makes short work of filing taxes.
What's not so great: Duplicate of downloads for joint accounts is confusing.
