minor complaint

After downloading the California State tax program the taxes were completed without any input or review from me. I had unwittingly not inserted my California estimated payments while doing my Federal taxes. Thus my State taxes were calculated in error, and my Federal taxes had already been E-Filed. I didn't believe that I owed state taxes and after printing out my State tax forms I discovered the error. I made the correction in my Federal taxes on TurboTax and then E-Filed my State taxes to receive a refund. Unfortunately now I will have to file an amended Federal return after the Federal tax form is accepted.
What's great about it: 99% Great
What's not so great: No chance to review the state taxes during TurboTax preparation

Easier Federal to State filing

This year for 2015 taxes, Turbo tax made the transition into State taxes much more simpler and seamless. In prior years, I used to wonder if the state and federal versions had been written by the same company because I always had to "add" information which the Federal forms already contained.
So, what I am saying is that Turbo Tax for 2015 tax year finally made the transition from Federal into State Taxes much more intuitive.
What's great about it: I liked the easier transition into State Taxes

Took the scary out of tax prep

I haven't done my own taxes in 20 years because I had my own business, but since I'm retired I decided to try to do it again and TurboTax really helped me walk through every step so I didn't forget anything.
What's great about it: Walked you through each step
What's not so great: I didn't understand a couple things but figured it out
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Complex Year

I was dreading doing taxes this year. Rental house, kid in college, lots of changes. But it really wasn't too bad. Turbo Tax carried most of the data entry forward from the previous year, which saved lots of time.
What's great about it: Carried info forward from 2014
What's not so great: taxes are hard to do
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Why Sweat?

Every year I would almost get sick from the dread & worry of having my taxes prepared. I would get all the information & worksheet filled out for my tax accountant. Then I would give them all the info & they would process it & then charge me an exorbitant fee. I did all the work ...why should I pay them so much just to put the data into their program? Now, I sit down in the privacy of my own home & do my own taxes in about an hour! So easy...this is my 2nd year...I wish that I had used Turbo Tax years sooner & I would have saved myself a lot of stress & money!
What's great about it: Ease of preparing & low cost
What's not so great: none
