Non functioning payment, confusing topics
on February 5, 2016
Posted by: kica
I decided to change how I came to a donation amount for my computer equipment. TurboTax never removed the required form, although it did accept the change. Then the state tax forms wanted information that was linked to the original donation calculation. Just made things so much worse.
At the time to pay to have protection in case of audit, the credit card would not work. I changed credit cards. Still not accepted. I'm still sitting here, 1 hour and multiple credit cards later, unable to enter the info and file my return. BTW, I have over 800+++ for my credit score.
What's great about it: Tried to make a government requirement more human
What's not so great: Confusing as heck
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Poorly Described Education Deduction Section
on February 7, 2016
Posted by: CowtownBob
When completing the section on education expenses, there is a page titled, " amount used to calculate education deduction or credit " and it comes with no explanation nor recommendation. Online help had questions, but no answers. I hope I did it right!!!!
What's great about it: Easy to enter and answer most questions
What's not so great: Education Section has no explanation on questions/terms

We made a minor error at the end with the PIN. Turbo tax can't help us fix it.

What's not so great: Don't make a mistake

Tougher this year
on February 7, 2016
Posted by: Martinez1a
Your tax software this year was way harder this year. Couple of times it asked me the same question for the same stuff and then I ended up having to manually delete the forms. The 179 deduction was a boondoggle. An error showed up but when I went to fix it, there was no fix and there was no help to fix it. these two things really dragged my process and added about 6 hours of round and round loop de loop from form to form to find the wrong information. I had to delete forms and a 1099-misc form just to get this thing to work. You guys need to work on it next year and bring back the video help.
What's great about it: I liked the easy to read steps
What's not so great: Miss the video help
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Very easy to use. It worked for my younger kids who have no decuctions, for my father who only has SSA and retirement income, and for me with itemized deductions, own home, and have stock income.

Federal Forms Needed for the State Return
on February 8, 2016
Posted by: Robert2995
My daughter and her husband did not itemize on their federal return but they incurred misc. itemized deduction from the federal form 2106. When your software uses the federal form to develop an entry on the state form for an itemized deduction the federal form is not printed or included in the state supporting information or with the federal return. This needs to be corrected immediately as it will hold up any e-filed return.
What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Nothing
