With investments and my wife's self-employment, it really make doing taxes easy.

Better this year

This year's return processing only took an hour, not including prep. That's a huge improvement over last year. I still had to know ahead of time that gas and oil royalties go on Sch E and that I don't need a Sch C. You guys still need to work on that. You also need to lay off the sales pitch on the IRAs Once is enough. I also don't want/need Audit protection if my return is correct.
What's great about it: Shortest time to file yet
What's not so great: Still trying to sell me products I don't need/want.

I also like the way it takes the federal taxes and places them into the state taxes.
What's great about it: Wonderful instructions. I like the way TurboTax pulls in info from last year's taxes into this year's taxes.

Only refinements needed in TurboTax Mac desktop

I've used TurboTax for many years and still like it. It has steadily improved each year.
It's good that it imports from previous years -- personal information, and important details such as carryover losses and depreciation information. And it's good that it allows downloading from major banks and brokerages, and the downloading goes largely well (with some exceptions involving mutual funds and cost basis, which is more about the changing regulations than TurboTax).
It's good that you are able to navigate to certain areas yourself, particularly in Income and Deductions. Even though there's a Topic List you can choose from up top, you still sometimes might have to go through a series of questions you've already answered just to update a particular field. The filing section where you enter signature PINs is one example.
TurboTax Illinois brings in information from the federal return pretty seamlessly. It's only when it comes to filing is it the most annoying, with so many requirements (key personal numbers needed) to file. That may be a State of Illinois thing more than TurboTax. In any case, the bureaucracy for filing electronically at the federal level is much easier than that at the Illinois level.
But I'll likely keep using TurboTax. It's help section has been very good, and I've gotten knowledgeable about federal tax law just from using TurboTax.
What's great about it: Imports from last year; downloads from banks, brokerages; lets you navigate topics yourself
What's not so great: Can't navigate to some specific steps; Illinois filing requirements cumbersome

Was fine to use until i went to file, seems that each year you keep adding more fees in order to file and the endless list of questions in the name of security you ask to file.
What's great about it: ease of use
What's not so great: very difficult to file
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

This year was the best experience using TurboTax for the last decade or more.
What's great about it: Auto Import Feature from banks and brokerage accounts
What's not so great: Still a few too many questions that seemed like information from prior reports.
