I normally do my own returns manually but I needed to file the sale of a second home so I thought I would try Turbo Tax. Everything went well till I was left trying to figure out how to submit my 1099-S and searching "sold second home" did not return the JUMP TO option so I really did not know how to proceed ands that is the only reason I purchased the premier. I completed but not sure how correct my return is.
What's great about it: includes all forms needed and makes the STATE return easy
What's not so great: instructions not clear for some forms
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Good not great

This is the first time that turbo tax got stuck during a calculation with the only way to remedy the situation to quit the application. The review of the California return asked for a form 3554 which I did not click a box for. Impossible to go through the program to find the error. Had to ask help which told me to delete the form directly. That worked and i was able to proceed and file.
What's great about it: easy to follow and download investment info
What's not so great: crashed a couple of times. Error with form 3554

TurboTax 2015 Premier Review

See con above. I almost missed a capital loss carry-over. Had to enter information to worksheet and Schedule D manually. Ly files were clearly saved in documents. Changed from windows 7 LY to Windows 10 TY. Could this have been the reason?
Sometimes the software is a little "clunky", but I've used it for several years and actually like it very much!
What's great about it: Easy to Use,
What's not so great: TY software did not pick up data from LY return other than personal data
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Helped me do my mother's taxes. Walked me through the process and left me feeling confident that I had not missed anything. Got a little confused on foreign tax credit until I realized the data had already been imported and I didn't need to put it in. Overall great resource.
What's great about it: Able to import data
What's not so great: Got a little confused on foreign tax credit

Taxes made easy

Turbotax does make doing your own taxes fairly easy. By inputing your relevant information it will ask and guide you through each step so you won't have to guess which forms are needed to file your taxes. My one gripe with Turbotax is that I have to purchase the more expensive version just to enter investment sales. I wish that would be included with the deluxe version as I don't have my own business or need all of the other features that are included with the more expensive version.
What's great about it: Step by step guidance makes doing taxes easy
What's not so great: Needed to purchase more expensive version for one additional feature
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Guide

Most straight-forward process yet. Have used Turbo Tax since 1990, experiencing many changes: DOS to hybrid-Windows to Windows. Have always used Easy Step which was clunky at times during the various transitions. I like the summaries and checking boxes for relevant information, as well as being able to download data from my mutual funds and brokerages.
I did have problems accessing my account to make a payment for e-filing state return. Did not accept my ID and PIN and would not let me exit to check my email for the code. Did not recognize my information as primary taxpayer-needs to be corrected.
What's great about it: easy process, avoid unnecessary steps, easy downloads
What's not so great: dislike your account access for pmt-screen froze, etc.
