Turbo saved my time...
on March 18, 2016

The Premier Version is perfect for my particular return. Some years more detail is needed and other years there may be less information to report. It makes me feel comfortable that I have not overlooked necessary details.
What's great about it: The info being available from previous year is really great.
What's not so great: Would like some different options for what to print.

comparison to US averages

This feature is interesting since it shows how skewed the wealth is in the USA. it would be more interesting to see how the income and taxes paid compare to median and percentiles.

A Good Experience - As Expected

Turbo Tax is a great product. It makes filing a detailed, and labor intensive return easier. If, during the tax year, you save records of items you will need for you tax return (medical expenses, school expenses, work expenses, charitable contributions, etc.), Turbo Tax makes filling in the data easy and painless. IF YOU HAVE THE RECORDS at hand when you begin completing your return. The only downside this year was my college expenses. Turbo Tax asked if I had ever for the Hope College Credit. If so, I had to list the dates and amounts. Even with 15 years of Turbo Tax returns saved on my computer, Turbo Tax required me to manually sort through my returns for a form, get the data off the form, and then input the data. Why can't Turbo Tax transfer the data?
Getting back to records. You have to keep records of expenses (and reimbursements) throughout the year, before you begin your return. Recreating this data after a year or more has gone by is difficult, and error-prone. Records, Records, Records ... in this modern age of computerized record keeping, it's easy .. it just takes discipline and a bit of time to set up the system and then diligence entering the data, and saving the proof (receipts, etc.).
What's great about it: Turbo Tax makes filing a detailed and extensive tax return easier
What's not so great: Even having over 15 years of Turbo Tax returns saved on my computer, I still had to manually check my records for info

Expensive & Missing Features
on March 18, 2016

Turbo Tax is too expensive. The purchase price and additional state uploads are a bit costly, but the transaction fees for processing the refund and/or paying overpayments are excessive.
Software changes. The charitable donations estimator was missing this year which made it a challenge to estimate my donations. Thumbs down on that software change.
I will definitely look for another way to file taxes next year.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Too expensive

Some Good, Some Not So Good

Turbo Tax always does a great job of staying on top of most recent tax rules. But several times during my entry it just seized. Tried the Microsoft solution, closed it and reopened it and it would work for a while, then seize again. Sigh.
What's great about it: Computations, questions
What's not so great: Hung up several times during entering data

Overall great software. At this price they should include state plus federal e-file free.
What's great about it: Easiest way to do taxes
What's not so great: price, local tax would not enter correct locality and thus did not transfer to my state tax correctly
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Great Experience

I've been using Turbo Tax for years. While my returns are not very complicated, they do require a bit of work to complete. Turbo Tax has made it easy to complete and file your returns and can address any concerns you may have on the fly right in the program. I recommend it for anybody that has "normal" tax returns to file
What's great about it: Easy to use, covers all the bases.
