Easy to complete and file tax return
on March 18, 2016
Posted by: JPhilS
Everything went smoothly except for imported data from my brokerage firm where an error occurred. I had to manually enter all of the 1099B and 1099R transactions, but it just took a few extra minutes. In the end I was totally satisfied with the tax return accuracy.
What's great about it: Easy
What's not so great: Had some problem with imported data, but it was not a Turbo Tax issue.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Just the Best

Over the years TurboTax has eased the pain of taxes by doing all the heavy lifting on my business and my stocks and bonds investments. Never have to scrabble to buy TurboTax since it is sent to me in the mail each year and it has always loaded perfectly on my computer. The help specialist have been courteous, knowledgeable and go the extra mile to help smooth the harder issues that come up. Sasan Goodarzi, a vice-president with Intuit - Turbo Tax, had a technician call me to explain a download problem I was having with my investment company. It is that kind of service that makes you faithful to a company.
What's great about it: Simple, Easy, Complete, and Accurate TurboTax has been the best for over 15 years,
What's not so great: None at this time

Good except one form
on March 18, 2016

For most tax payers it is a breeze!!! But throw in a Form 1116 and that adds up to 3 more hours of work!! Please work on it. I love using Turbo Tax and find it straight forward except Form 1116. Love that data carries forward from year to year. I help several people every year and love using Turbo Tax for their returns.
What's great about it: Easy. Answers questions as I go.
What's not so great: Form 1116 is terrible. Every year it is a problem. Needs improvement.

Unneeded Complexity

A print screen function I would really like so I wouldn't have to copy so many screens long-hand. Also, the absence of an alphabetical order for existing and newly-entered charities would make the entering of this information much more efficient. And lastly, the entering of a Pennsylvania RK-1 Schedule was doubly difficult because its information did not come forward from the Federal return. I'm given the impression because the Federal K-1did NOT list any income--but only excess deductions--the absence of income prevented the Federal K-1 moving forward. Hence I had to start afresh under Estates & Trusts of the Pennsylvania return and basically re-enter all the information again. This situation or failure of the software is NOT good.
What's great about it: TT worked well for much of my needs which were reasonably straightforward
What's not so great: The lack of a Print Screen function & an Alphabetical order for Charities

Continues to be a good product

I kept some records in ItsDeductible for my own information, even though I knew they would not be deductible. When I un-clicked them after importing, TT insisted they were still there. It was difficult to eliminate the unwanted entries.
What's great about it: Easy to follow steps. Links to the help function were very good.
What's not so great: The import function from it'sDeductible didn't work well.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Many an Obstacle, but the best option

Overall, it wasn't too bad. I was able to get in contact with the customer service department of intuit, and they were very helpful. Certainly no complaints there. It just took about 5 hours to go through everything from the moment I sat down to start until I finished. All told, that's actually not bad at all.
What's great about it: Once the software updates were there, it was quick
What's not so great: software updates were difficult to manage
