Good Product

I've used TT for several years now, proof that I like the product. Each year seems to go smoother. I think two things cause this. 1. I am more familiar with the product each year and may be dodging bumps in the road without realizing it. (If it hurts when you do that, don't do that.) 2. the product is improved each year as the programmers get higher on their own learning curve in both technique and knowledge of the program they're working on. In the past, I have had trouble with the royalty income section. I get form 1099 MISC and enter the information in that section but, of course, there is the "Rentals and Royalties" section to come. The handling of that has improved by alerting me that I will encounter that to complete the data. I was so confused at one point in earlier years that I had Two entries for the royalty property which was a mess. That is smoothed out, somewhat but need further attention. I'm sorry that I didn't take note of how far I had progressed but at one point when I started the program to continue entering data, I was forced to go through the personal information section before continuing. That kinda threw me. I thought that I had screwed up. This was after an update. All in all it is a good product and this year was by far the easiest in a long while and my overall financial status has not changed.
What's great about it: Guided through what I needed to do.
What's not so great: Repeated cycle through personal information at one point.

Rental Property section questions are not clear
on March 17, 2016

Rental section did not allow for easy entry of information and worst of all the questions around active and passive participation were very confusing and poorly written. I spend over 750 hours on my rentals and still it wanted to term me a passive investor.
The actual forms no longer allow one to change a number you have to go back to easy step and walk through everything. Make my time to complete increase by 40%.
Not happy with the product anymore. Seems like you favor overpaying the IRS to me.
Health insurance section would not even load properly.
I have two college students which received some scholarship funds how about improving that section. My entries resulted in me not getting the parental credit for the two of them going to a 4 year degree program.
What's not so great: Rental section worst of the 7 years I have used this.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Having interviewed two firms about doing my tax return, I came to the conclusion that working with Turbo Tax application was the best alternative. My return required significant documentation which had to be gathered and organized which fell to me and was the most time consuming part of the task and that was true regardless of who prepare and submitted the return. Secondly, a deduction for a casualty loss was critical to my return and neither of the tax preparers that I interviewed was willing to confirm that the tax return would include the casualty loss in the deductions; thus I felt compelled to do the return myself.and I have used the product with simpler returns and found it to be excellent. I believe you end up with a better return because you can take your time and where needed you can get your questions answered by pros..
What's great about it: Process for obtaining tax advice from experts went smoothly and was efficient
What's not so great: It was my opinion the app did not have a lot of specifics regarding deriving "fair market value" data for property

Had a problem printing my returns. I did not find the answer in HELP right away. Perhaps I over looked it, or it wasn't there at the time. No data came through on the printout. It just printed rectangular boxes in place of the data. I found it quite frustrating. I even reloaded the Adobe software because I could see that the PDF file was exhibiting the same problem. Other files on my computer printed just fine. Eventually I tried HELP again and found that the problem was known and in the Courier Font on my computer. Who would have guessed?! Fixed the problem and all was OK. This is the first time I have had a major, frustrating problem with TurboTax.

Another great experience

I have used TurboTax since 2000. Each year it gets a little better, to the point that I think I can't do any better. This year, however. I found a medical deduction that made a huge difference in my return. I absolutely would have missed it if I had done this myself the old fashioned way.
What's great about it: Ease of use, finding new deductions, maximizing return
What's not so great: Doesn't return you to prior stopping place like older versions
Pros: I bought or sold investments

What's not so great: when doing estimated tax, it didn't take me directly to whether I wanted to apply a prtion of the refund to 2016 taxes

I am getting to old for this...I need to vote (not that it would make a difference) for presidential candidates who will simplify the tax code and reporting process.
What's great about it: Investment/retirement-RMD accounts reporting simplified over past years
What's not so great: Some responses are still based on best guess because explanations often require explanations
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
