Slick Product

If you get the correct TurboTax product, it covers all the bases for you. I have been using it for over 15-20 years. It will walk you through the process as a rookie or let you skip and choose to your relevant areas. Especially useful is the importation of last years data to preclude all the entry work.
What's great about it: Ease of use and comprehensive; import of data
What's not so great: IRS

Great form (need to fix the start-up and finish)

I've used Turbo Tax for a number of years and find it very helpful. Data is easily input, the automatic data importing from financial institutions has improved and avoids a huge amount of hand data transfer, the cost is far lower than getting professional help. I did run into two easily fixed snafus this year. For the first time installation was difficult. After figuring out I needed the latest Windows update...twice...it was easy and simple again, but finding out I needed to restart my computer to get that update took a long time the first time. At the end the program demanded a "payer" State in a 1099-R. But the payer was from DC. It wouldn't take DC, it wouldn't take na, when I tried MD and VA it wouldn't take the DC zip code. A total catch 22...so I did a workaround and used WA with a WA-Seattle zip code...inaccurate, but not substantive.
What's great about it: easy to follow, great automatic import of data
What's not so great: Install took forever, needed updates; finish had a catch 22

Tax filing made easy
on March 17, 2016

I have used Turbo Tax for our tax preparation since 2000 and find it easy to use, appreciate the audit risk assessment and other tips, like the carry-forward of data especially and missed it this year when my old computer with its backup drive sat on sidelines due to hackers. Wished I had online backup with Turbo Tax to get prior year data as I was re-entering data that automatically popped up from year to year in the past. There was likely a way to get from backup hard drive but I was too lazy to try to figure it all out. It worked and I just finished e-filing. Appreciated extra security steps.
I do volunteer tax preparation for IRS VITA site. Fraud is such a big issue now that IRS requires much more personal ID and verification to do tax returns at sites, so it was good to see that Turbo Tax has adopted some of those safeguards, too.
What's great about it: Ease of filing, ease of data entry, coordinated with Its Deductible for charitable contributions
What's not so great: Lack of something like Its Deductible for medical deductions

2015 Done

Previous editions seemed to be easier to use, but there are additional considerations this year. All in all it is so much easier to use turbo tax than it is to go through all of the worksheets necessary if I were to do my taxes manually.
What's great about it: Not so many calculations on my part.
What's not so great: When I opened turbo tax this year it did not automatically open and ask to get info from 2014.

Complex taxes made easy
on March 17, 2016

I have used TurboTax for years and it has simplified complicated submissions including stock options, capital gains, royalty income and the like. But complexity aside, it makes filing taxes a snap. I always feel confident that my submission are accurate and backed by TurboTax.
What's great about it: Easy, thorough, helpful
What's not so great: You can save a few dollars by not automatically receiving TT

Always gets the job done

I've used TT for the past 15 years. I've never had issues with it. I must say that it has gotten a bit more expensive, but it's still cheaper than going to a professional. It's also faster than going to the post office, trying to find all the forms you need, and trying to do it all by hand. I used to do that! Got so tiresome as life got more complicated with investments, charities, etc. because it was taking longer to do and you always wanted to double-check your math. Sometimes I'd have to stop and go back to the post office to find additional forms! What a hassle. The import feature is AWESOME! Makes it easy to get all your info from banks and brokerages! You don't have to worry that you filled out a form incorrectly! If someone has never tried TT, I would suggest they give it a try. I'm sure they'll become a loyal fan fast.
What's great about it: Has all forms and is easy to use. Most stuff is self-explanitory. Software guides you through everything easily.
What's not so great: Some deductions, credits, forms could use additional info in how they are to be used.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

better than ever but still not perfect
on March 17, 2016

When I got to return checking, for a K-1 form it told me there were too many characters for the business location, which it showed in the business name space.
After going back into my return several times to change it, I forget what made it work.
Maybe it was just deleting it; perhaps there was a ghost left over from the K-1 form I started, but was told I didn't need to file because it's not required for a retirement account.
Anyway, wasted a half hour including this review.
What's great about it: For the first time, I didn't get stumped when the info asked for didn't match my tax forms
What's not so great: erroneous check results
Pros: I bought or sold investments
