My taxes have gotten much more complicated because of getting into retirement years with stocks and IRA's being part of our taxes. It would require my wife and I to hire a CPA to do our taxes now!
What's great about it: Turbo Tax makes it easier to use every year
What's not so great: not even one
Pros: I bought or sold investments, I moved

Almost perfect for my needs

This is first time I have used TT, after many years of relying on my CPA.
Everything was straightforward until I came upon section called 'Carryover Worksheet' After several tries resulting in errors and hunting for answers on Google and Intuit, I think (Guessed) I did it right. Suggestion: Intuit to provide description and examples of Carryover Worksheet, in particular the column called 'Total Withheld Payments'
What's great about it: Very Complete, user friendly, and easy to use.
What's not so great: Lack a bit of explanation & example
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

Messed up Oregon Return
on March 11, 2016

I lived in two states in 2015. Fine. I think online version did Fed and CA okay, but really messed up OR. Problem was in computing the OR Federal Pension deduction for service before 10/1/91. The computed values made no sense to me.
I had to go to the download version so I could override values and use my own computations. Thanks, Intuit, for pushing that version to me at no extra charge.
But then it still caused problems by not just letting me use the "points" method to enter Federal Service start and stop dates. Fortunately, when I entered the dates, which did not accurately reflect my federal service, it did not change the "points" that I entered, which would have re-introduced errors into my return.
I'm hoping for better performance next year from the online version...or maybe I'll just go with the download version again. With it, I have more control and a better understanding of what is happening since I can always get to the forms rather than being tied to and left in the dark by the Q&A step-by-step process of the online version.
What's great about it: Ease of Use, especially year over year
What's not so great: Can't override entries in online version, instructions cryptic for some entries
Pros: I moved

I like following the questions which make doing taxes easy. I have used Turbo Tax for years and have generally been pleased. This year the "import" of last year's information was not as "detailed" for lack of a better term. In the past, Turbo Tax has asked if I still had dividends from previous year's provider etc. That was not the case this year. I have used Turbo Tax since we first started renting my husband's former home and every year but this one the depreciation information has been transferred and I haven't had to think about it. This year I had to look back to the first rental year and calculate depreciation based on former returns. This could be due to new tax laws or something I don't know but it was a bit of a hassle that I have not had in the past. Considering that one can now do basic taxes online for free, it would seem that the cost of the deluxe and premium software might go down. For just a few dollars more, I could hire someone to do our taxes which would take the worry and hassle off my shoulders.
What's great about it: imported most of last year's data
What's not so great: had to refigure depreciation on rental property
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Disappointed that Gift Tax forms no longer included. Internet search indicated Turbo tax would help with filing and forms.
What's great about it: Easy to follow course through required areas
What's not so great: More difficult to explore options and correct previous entries
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Easy For the Most Part

I have used Turbo Tax for a number of years. I have tried other choices to compare, but prefer Turbo Tax. It is easy to use, especially if you choose the "walk me through" option.
Problem areas for me. Default on 1099 Misc income is to Schedule C when Schedule E is also (and the better choice). Only way to access Schedule E is to force opening through Form option.
I cannot get Turbo Tax to apply tax refund to next year's taxes. I must print and mail the 1040 and fill that choice in by hand.
I resent built in effort to force purchase of upgrades.
What's great about it: Questions to lead through are clear and complete
What's not so great: Some choices are problems
