Wedded to Turbo Tax

I have used Turbo Tax for many years, possibly since it was first available. I find that it is straight forward and generally has answers to any item that may require a broader investigation. My tax returns have never been especially difficult and prior to Turbo Tax I hand prepared my returns, a time consuming job.. This tax program has enabled me to file accurate returns for many years and I have never had an audit with this program, I feel confident that if audited, having done all the preparation by myself I will be well versed on providing information and answers that I believe will be true and acceptable. This program when coupled with the Quicken check write program makes for great record keeping!
What's great about it: Continuous use from previous years makes data entry easy.
What's not so great: Nothing stands out.

TURBO EXCELLENCE

I have used Turbo Tax for many years and I would never switch to another tax preparation program. Importing information from the previous year was easy and downloading investment information saved me many hours if I had to do it manually. Reinvested dividends are great until you sell a position that has reinvested monthly dividends for several years! I recommend that instructions for inputting direct deposit information for NY returns be provided early on instead of at the very end. Otherwise I believe Turbo Tax is truly outstanding!
What's great about it: Excellent guidance through all areas
What's not so great: Poor informartion re: how to make direct depposit of refund for NY
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Finished early!!

The cost to file State taxes should be included for the first state that is registered with my federal purchase. Why should we have to pay twice?

What's not so great: cost to file State taxes

Not so cheap when all extras tallied.
What's great about it: brought up comparisons to prior year to prevent omissions
What's not so great: Extra fees for state and electronic filing

it was very user friendly. Tried to buy the audit protection. It would not let me. It tried to charge me to much. Got aggravated and did not get the protection.

Great for most, but not all, situations

I have used TurboTax for many years, and it is an indispensable tool. In 2015, I owned dividend paying stocks of companies domiciled in about 30 different countries. The information necessary to complete Form 1116 (to claim a foreign tax credit) was on the 1099-DIV supplied by my broker. However, that information did not download to TurboTax with all of my other transactions, and I had to enter it manually. TurboTax did not accommodate manual entry very well, either. Based on comments in the Community Forum, this problem has existed for several years. I would have rated the product a 5, but this shortcoming caused me to spend significantly more time on my return, including research to ensure that I completed it correctly.
What's great about it: Easy to use tool that is well-organized and covers all common situations
What's not so great: Functionality for Form 1116 is poor
