Problems with Mac version
on March 6, 2016
Posted by: NicknameDebi
I switched from the PC version of TT after over a decade of using it, to the Mac version. At first it was great. I didn't even need to do a file conversion like I did with Quicken. But then I downloaded an update and it kept telling me the date on my file was wrong. I finally deleted the application and re-downloaded it. Still not good. I couldn't even start over with a new file. Went back to the PC version. Fortunately, even though I had made changes to the file from the Mac before the incident, it picked up the latest file and continued from there.
What's great about it: Used TT for years. Generally very good
What's not so great: Switched to Mac version. Started off great. But then....

You have a Bug in your software

My 2014 tax information (history) did not pull over when I opened the 2015 and it caused a problem when I filed electronically.
To be specific, the name, SSI and all that information pulled over just fine. No problem there.
But my income and tax history for 2014 did not pull over properly and it caused a reject in my e-filing. I had to manually correct the data as best I could. Not fun.
You need to add something that can let me force TT to go back and get the correct 2014 information.
Also, I could not get TT to understand that I did not have a K-1 this year and that I did not own a farm - no idea why it thought I owned a farm.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Awesome Easiness!

I like the way Turbo Tax walks you through each step that applies to your case and makes the process quick, painless and dummy proof for the most part. I did mark one box wrong and had to go back and figure out what happened, but it wasn't too painful. The system works well for me and I like sitting at home in my sweats on a rainy day getting it all done.
What's great about it: The step by step walk through approach
What's not so great: Mark one box wrong and oops- you are back figuring out what you did

Adverse reaction
on March 6, 2016

Used TT for many years. This year may be my last. Form 1099 and K-1 major roadblock. When overcome and ready to file - by necessity by mail - had severe problems trying to print out. Not a happy camper. Too much marketing of fees and not enough customer satisfaction emphasis. too bad. May be the last year I use Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Mostly clear instructions - but still need work
What's not so great: End game - printing and filing by mail - confusing

Hated TT this year!!

Filing for 2014 taxes with TT seemed SO MUCH easier last year?! Every time I launched TT for 2015 taxes, it said there was an update.Trouble was, I had to MANUALLY update every time! Getting my State Tax also took way too long. Yet another hassle of 2 minutes turning into NEVER. It took about 10 attempts and all my technical skills to finally get my state tax to download. And I had to pay for it, even though the original TT version I bought said it was included. After all those inconvenience fees added up, I could have paid someone ELSE to do my taxes and save myself several big headaches! I WILL consider another Tax program next year (or pay someone else...)!
What's great about it: easy to electronically file
What's not so great: TT never worked without coaxing (2 minutes is really NEVER) and problems downloading State Tax (2 minutes means NEVER)
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
