Lots of trouble with 1095-A and 8962
on March 5, 2016
Posted by: kittan
Everything was wonderful until I noticed that form 8962 wasn't included in my return. I went back in to correct but had way too much trouble to get the info on a 1095-a and move it to 8962. Went to FAQ and saw many others had the same problem, even filing without 8962. Who wants a letter from the IRS.
What's great about it: Downloads through Mint
What's not so great: Had to spend hours getting info onto form 8962
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Bug in 1099B Worksheet
on March 5, 2016
Posted by: Zdrastvouy
Sold ESPP stock in two transactions. On second transaction, 1099B worksheet insisted on adding a 2 indicating an additional transaction when none took place. When details (description, cost basis, etc) were omitted, this showed up as an error. This "error" then prevented e-filing of the Federal return. After a week of trying various fixes and work-arounds, we finally entered "Bug in Program, No additional transaction" and used "0"s for the amounts demanded. Only then were we able to e-file. This resulted in a great deal of time, stress, and frustration on what normally used to involve about 4 hours of work.
What's great about it: Transferred information from previous years
What's not so great: Error in program consumed extensive amounts of time and work around to fix.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I love Turbo Tax and have been using it since 1994. Everything is in it that you need for filing taxes. I love the guided tour portion and let it ask me all the questions. You never skip a deduction this way. Great product.
What's great about it: Includes everything you need
What's not so great: Investment section not for dummies
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Upset with Turbo tax!!!
on March 5, 2016
Posted by: lindakay777
I lost job and signed up for unemployment, opted to have taxes deducted from unemployment. 1099 showed federal taxes deducted from my unemployment check. My total payment was $76.00 and $58.00 was withheld. I can't help that government withheld a high percentage!!! I only received $18.00 in unemployment. Turbo tax would not let my entry of $58.00 for a withholding go through the filing process. The only way I could file my return electronically was to remove the withholding tax from the form. It reduced my refund by the $58.00. So now I lose twice!! Government took taxes and I don't get credit for them. Not sure if I will ever use Turbo tax again!!!
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

RSU Entry Went Downhill This Year
on March 5, 2016
Posted by: TaxedTaxRabbit
Restricted stock unit entry became overly complex and wrong. If I had entered what TT requested, my tax bill would have been greater than $100,000 when in fact it was $5,000. Really! In addition, it required too many clicks per transaction. Very poor user experience and not a good grasp of the information actually needed.
I have been a TT fan for years, giving it high marks. But after this year, I think I'll start shopping around for another solution that supports RSU and other stock transactions better.
What's great about it: Most everything straightforward
What's not so great: RSU entry complicated and wrong

Easy to use

The area of "carry overs" is not very clear. Exactly what it means and where you get info to plug into the current year's return could be much more explicit. Otherwise, this program is very good.
What's great about it: Fast and mostly very clear
What's not so great: Some definitions could be clearer
Pros: I bought or sold investments, I moved
