Tedious
on March 1, 2016

Intuit has a long way to go in making the filing easier. Many duplicate entries require making the same entries over and over. Some do not differentiate if the entry title is the same as other items. Some questions are not clear - Do have kids? What are kids? adults, minors, live at home grown up?
What's great about it: not many
What's not so great: tedious

2015 Taxes

I have been using Turbotax since the late 80's and have only used another program once. That was a mistake. I like the fact that I can see my tax records for multiple years to see how things have changed.
What's great about it: Easy Step Rocks
What's not so great: Sometimes you just have to dig into the forms to see how things are calculated.

Doing Taxes a Breeze
on March 1, 2016

The Turbo Tax software allows the completion of federal and state returns to be a breeze. An easy onscreen format to follow. Doing my taxes without the program likely would take weeks. With Turbo Tax, once I have all my information collected, requires just a few hours to complete a return. I really don't need much tax form knowledge when using this program. It does it all for me. For the price of the program the efile for a State return ought to be free. At least Turbo Tax has reduced the fee.
Between the time of completing my returns and Efiling, I upgraded to Windows 8.1. Oops! Turbo Tax 2015 does not operate with Windows 8.1. Until all of the Window 8.1 updates and optional updates are downloaded and installed. The turbo tax reference site provides a fix that did not work, Resolving this problem took an extensive period of time to correct. If you upgrade to Windows 8.1 keep in mind there is no process of going back to Windows 8. The solution to the problem exist in one of the optional updates.
What's great about it: Easy to follow instructions and a practical format through-out the process.
What's not so great: Program did not fully open, run, and locate files on Windows 8.1 Must pay extra to efile a State return.

Far Beyond Expectations

Due to Windows 10 not supporting media players on its download I attempted to download others so I could use the Turbo Tax DVD ( my preference). Totally frustrated by having no success I called the Help number, gave my information, and was called back in less than ten minutes. The customer care person tried to do a work around and then offered to send it to me and I could use the on-line product, which I did. And then the updates kept crashing the soft ware.. Windows 10 has been a head ache for Turbo Tax. She suggested I not download updates at this time, do my return, and down load updates at the end. Yep, it crashed again. Second CS rep. stayed on the phone with me until the down loads loaded. I worried about "wasting her time", but she assured me I could never do that. Flawless filing.
What's great about it: Professional, friendly, non-condescending help. Windows 10 problems explained and circumvented. Twice

TurboTax sometimes makes errors. During review, TurboTax said I had to uncheck direct debit because you had to use efile to do direct debit. I had to uncheck direct debit to proceed. Then in the filing section, It had me recheck direct debit. Over the years, I have experienced similar errors.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Cannot see how Turbtax does its caluclations
Pros: I bought or sold investments
