I have used Turbo Tax for several years and have always found it easy to use. It identifies several things I probably would have missed by using the old fashion way.
What's great about it: Efficient. Easy to use.
What's not so great: None
Pros: I bought or sold investments

With multiple accounts very difficult to audit the imports. Nor really sure what the program is doing. In the end put the return at the mercy and scrutiny of the IRS to accept or deny. May take years.
What's great about it: Hard to say
What's not so great: Really in secure
Pros: I bought or sold investments

TurboTax seems to be better than anything else that's available for someone who wants to do it themself; however, it's a resource hog (slow), and confusing. Navigation is not as logical as it could be for someone who has done their taxes by hand, and instructions for some line items are not clear (if they exist). Unfortunately, because the tax code has been designed to "encourage" (force?) people to hire a tax preparer, you can do the calculations yourself (if you're really good), buy commercial software and hope for the best, or hire a tax preparer. The last 2 options potentially expose your financial data to the world, but when accountants and corporations lobby politicians to make the tax code needlessly confusing (to give them business and make cheating easy, respectively), they don't care about their customers' security.
What's great about it: Gets the job done.
What's not so great: Slow and confusing.

software need work
on January 11, 2016

I downloaded tax exempt items from my broker. I repeated the download not knowing that they would accumulate and raise my overall income. This accumulated income got reported and since it didn't affect my Federal taxes I did not notice BOX 8b was 3 times what it should have been.
However the this resulted in my exceeding a total income bracket which then forces me to pay a higher premium for parts B an D of Medicare, Approximately $150.00 a month more for my wife and I. Not a good result.
There should be a way that the software recognizes this download was already done and a warning issued as to what happens when the download is done again.
Now I have sent in an amended return and will lose that income until I can get this resolved with the IRS and SSA!
What's great about it: Easy to use but needs more cautions for entries
What's not so great: needs some support for more complicated entries,Bonds, Stocks
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Premier Edition Difficult to Use
on January 20, 2016

In past years I have used TurboTax Deluxe with no problems. In 2015, I bought a new house and rented out my old house. TurboTax was difficult to understand without doing extensive research outside of TurboTax on such things as GoZone in Harrison County, MS, depreciation of rental property, Tax Court Method vs IRS Method, and fair market value. It was also hard to differentiate where to put taxes and interest for the part of the year I lived in the house vs when the renters moved in and then where did that get calculated since it said not to enter in the section where I entered same info for my new house. After three nights of researching online, I went ahead and efiled hoping I did everything correctly but wishing I had an accountant that could explain everything. TurboTax recommended that I claim Head of Household and when I decided not to claim any dependents, it would not change it's recommendation. I do not feel I got my moneys worth out of TurboTax this year. I have used TurboTax every year since 2007.
What's great about it: Rental Property Section
What's not so great: Difficult to navigate through rental property section
Pros: I moved
