What's not so great: Dealing with sale of rental home was difficult to understand
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Need more specific guidance and questions to avoid counting capital gains twice when income from stock option exercise is recognized and taxed through payroll.
What's great about it: FAQ helped me through my capital gains issue.
What's not so great: Need more specific questions to navigate capital gains

Love Turbotax Been using this since early 1990s and it just gets better every year. Really useful to be able to download directly from financial institutions, really cuts down on data entry and possible errors. Software makes sure all relevant deductions are accounted for. Would not do my taxes without this program.
What's great about it: Pulls information from last year, cuts down on data entry great interface with financial organizations
What's not so great: Still a few issues with moving data into the state return
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

This customer did not provide a text review.
What's not so great: Form 8606 amounts DO NOT pull from last year's return. Your Deluxe version does not handle mutual fund investments.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Overall great software!
Very easy to use and repopulates information from last years return and easy to change any data if needed.
Provides the option to fill out state returns, easy to use and pulls in data you already have on your federal form.
The links (click here) are very helpful when you need to research a section/question. This is a great feature as well.
Best of all the e-filing with ability to track your return(s).
What's great about it: Auto Populated Information
What's not so great: Rechecking boxes in sections when reviewing

black hole
on February 28, 2016
Posted by: wrdcad1040
i have used this program for years and always found iit to be excellent. this year was an exception. the problem had to do with the manner in which self employed health insurance was addressed, This amount was in line 14 of my W-2 (corrected) and TT would not insert it automatically in line 29 of 1040. Thus, as in years past, I inserted it with override. However, when I went to e-file, TT would not let it go through, giving a simple instruction that I had to delete the override. However, if I deleted the override I lost the allowable credit. Eventually I elected to file by mail and am very disappointed. If, indeed, the use of the override is the only way to insert this credit and doing so eliminates the e-filed option, then TT should say so rather than sending the user into a black hole that keeps asking to have you delete the override but does not advise that you need to file by mail.
