Amazing!

The software was amazing, I had a TON of tax documents! I got married this year, and my wife returned to work from school as well as rolled over 4 previous IRA accounts, the amount of tax paperwork we had was insane however TurboTax made it simple to enter and get the maximum refund possible! What a great piece of software! Thanks TurboTax!
What's great about it: SUPER SIMPLE INTERFACE
What's not so great: I have a lot of tax documents...
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Sale of Home not in main line of interview.

Should be a question on both the Fed and State asking if primary home sold during tax year. You can ultimately get info on the Fed after searching Other Income.
The Pa. State is totally absent on this subject - even when searching Help. Since Pa Schedule 19 (Sale of Principal Residence) must be completed Turbo Tax State is completely useless.
What's great about it: Fed thorough, easy to use, State (Pa.) anemic.
What's not so great: Sale of Home obscure

Very Helpful But Missing Some Features

I have had nothing but great experiences uses TurboTax in prior years. It pays for itself easily by optimizing my refund in ways I would never think to do myself. However, this is the first year where I've run into some troubles, admittedly because of a more complicated tax situation. I was married overseas to my foreign spouse last year, and she is in the process of immigrating to the USA. In the end, TurboTax surprised me with how well it handled many of the details of our taxes. It was getting there that was tricky. It wasn't easy to find answers to a lot of the questions I had. I was originally going to file as married filing separately, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to account for California's community property laws in that case. I then found online that I could file as married filing jointly, which ended up being better in terms of total refund, but there were several points in TurboTax's interviews where I couldn't tell if it was asking about me or my foreign spouse, especially for the state return. Also, I had to make quite a few corrections after the Smart Check found errors which seemed to me like they could have easily been better automated. The software also kind of gives up when it comes to filing Form W-7 with the Austin office, or preparing an FBAR for foreign accounts, and so on. It just tells you where to go to figure out what to do. Again, I understand and accept that my taxes this year are definitely more complicated than in the past, but I would think having a foreign spouse wouldn't be so exceedingly rare that it wouldn't be made easy. I would really like to see future versions of the program handle some more of these cases. However, I don't want to sound too harsh on it, because besides these interesting issues I came across, the program was fantastic. It got me a nice big refund just like every other year, and as long and frustrating as it was figuring out how to file jointly with my wife, it would have been worse without the guidance from TurboTax.
What's great about it: easy and comprehensive
What's not so great: still confusing for immigrating spouse
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Been using Turbo Tax for more than 30 years and have never had a problem. Even with more technical tax situations, the program seems to have the answers. I will continue using Turbo Tax into the foreseeable future.
What's great about it: Easy / Step by Step
What's not so great: Nothing

Minor problems with state forms
on February 24, 2016
Posted by: Heinrich36
I've used Turbo Tax for many years (except for 2014), and converting info from the federal joint return to the Iowa separate-returns-on-one-form often results in errors which the program will not allow one to override. For example, the total of our health insurance costs are listed as my expense and not listed separately as they should have been. Also one of the 1099MISC joint income items was not divided equally as it should have been. The two errors tended to cancel, so I did not try to start over, but it did cost me a few bucks on the refund.
What's great about it: Easy to efile both federal and two state returns
What's not so great: Errors on one of the state returns
Pros: I bought or sold investments
