Fairly Painless, Particularly If You Can't Do Math

I've been using TurboTax for years and I'm always satisfied with it. It's really easy to use; it transfers scads of data from the previous year so I don't have to re-enter my address and so forth; it does the math for me, which is huge; it has nice clear lists of things I'm supposed to include; it's easy to bounce around in the program if I forget something or have to change an entry; it offers straightforward explanations of cryptic IRS things. I think it's expensive for a single-use computer program, but a CPA would cost even more.
A glitch: We do a little business through Air B&B, which TurboTax doesn't seem to have heard of. When I put our rental income under "Rental Income" (crazy, right?), the IRS sent me a notice two years later asking for another 1K because it thought I hadn't recorded the Air B&B money at all. Apparently it was supposed to go somewhere other than "rental income," but I still don't know where. This was a nuisance and slightly nerve-wracking, but no real harm done. But it'll be the same situation this year--still nothing on Air B&B in TurboTax, so I used the (evidently wrong) rental income box again. And in TT's defense, the IRS doesn't know where to record Air B&B income either. Maybe this year they'll send the black helicopters after me.
My other complaint is utterly trivial, but it bugs me every year. TurboTax prints EVERY form, regardless of which box you check. If you say "Only forms needed for filing," you still get the unctuous cover letter, the pointless worksheets, and pages of supplemental forms the Feds don't want. Somebody put a lot of thought into that cover letter, and by god you're going to get two copies of it.
What's great about it: Easy instructions; automatic calculations; great pulldown menu
What's not so great: Nothing on Air B&B income; eats paper like a starving goat

Just one thing ...

Every year I have a hard time entering royalties and the production taxes. And then it's not easy to know where to enter the related real estate taxes. It should be easier.
What's not so great: Oil & Gas Royalty

Seamless State This Year
on February 23, 2016

I have used Turbo Tax for about 10 years now, and this year it seems that the final piece of the puzzle was coded in. Every year in the past I have had to re-enter at least some of the information I'd already entered into the federal return, and after doing a lot of itemized work, even though it is easier by far than doing it by hand, that was always a letdown. This year, though, I had to re-enter nothing. The state tax process was finally the afterthought to the massive federal tax return that it should be.
The questions were also much more straightforward and quicker to get through. While the interview process has always been a good idea, at times it too has been longer than needed. This year that was fixed.
This has been the best tax experience I have had since I started doing itemized returns. Being able to say anything positive about the chore of the year really shows the value of Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: everything imported for state return; questions much more straightforward
What's not so great: None

I am recently divorced and did my taxes last year with help from my ex using TurboTax. This year I flew solo!! So easy to get all my forms recorded in the correct places. Loved being able to see what the "due" or "refund" amounts were as I went along.
What's great about it: Takes you back to potential problems to fix

Got the job done right

As a CPA that was in public accounting for several years now out in corporate accounting I needed a good tax program to use. TubroTax ranked very well and I was pleased to see that it did a good job helping to point out items for the return. Like any computer program, it is only as good as the data put in.
What's great about it: Easy to use
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
